Original job description

Position Overview Hiring an experienced CNC Machining Setup Operator, 1st shift for a full-time, direct-hire position at a precision manufacturing facility in the Saginaw area. The role focuses on the custom machining of heavy-duty industrial components, including casters, wheels, and material handling gear rather than high-volume assembly lines. The operator is responsible for executing precise drilling, boring, and turning setups from technical drawings and blueprints.

What you’ll do:

  • Setup & Operation: Completes comprehensive machine setups on multi-axis CNC mills and lathes dedicated to custom component casting and machining.
  • Boring & Turning: Executes precise tolerances on heavy cylindrical parts, wheel configurations, and industrial caster mounts.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interprets and works directly from detailed engineering blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and shop travelers.
  • Quality Inspection: Utilizes precision tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges) to perform first-piece and in-process visual and dimensional inspections.
  • Tooling & Offsets: Selects appropriate tooling inserts, makes necessary G-code program edits at the controller, and manages tool wear offsets.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience: a minimum of 5+ years of combined formal training and experience (or an equivalent mix of education and experience) in custom precision production.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with G-code manipulation, calculating speeds and feeds for cast iron or structural steel, and reading multi-view blueprints.
  • Bring your tools: Calipers (6 or 8 inch), a good quality brand (minimum).
  • Autonomy: Strong ability to complete first-piece verification independently and troubleshoot tool wear without constant supervision.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to safely lift heavy components, stand for extended periods, and handle industrial equipment safely.
  • Positive Attitude and Team Player: Strong culture of mutual respect and helpfulness.

What we offer:

  • Competitive hourly wages depending on experience
  • Shift and overtime flexibility: 4/10’s, 5/8’s, 5/10’s etc.
  • Full company benefits package: Medical, Dental, Vision, and Short/Long-Term Disability.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a company match program.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) and 10 paid holidays.

*Must be authorized to work in the United States without restriction
