About Our Client
Our client is an established commercial construction and site development firm with projects nationwide.
The Role
The Civil Estimator plays a critical role in preconstruction, developing accurate, competitive, and strategic cost estimates for construction projects. You will analyze specifications, drawings, and related documentation to forecast material, labor, equipment, and subcontract costs, and partner with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to evaluate feasibility, identify risks and opportunities, and deliver pricing that fits project goals, budgets, and timelines. This role works with a high degree of independence and mentors junior estimators.
What You'll Do
- Perform detailed, accurate quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications
- Analyze plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and other documents to define scope and identify risks
- Build comprehensive estimates covering self-perform work, subcontractor scopes, materials, equipment, and indirect costs using HCSS HeavyBid
- Develop and issue RFPs/RFQs; solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier bids
- Prepare complete, competitive bid packages and ensure accurate, on-time submission
- Lead internal estimate reviews and present key assumptions, risks, and opportunities to leadership
- Identify value engineering opportunities, cost savings, schedule/sequencing impacts, and "gains and fades" risk exposure
- Attend pre-bid meetings, client meetings, and site visits, and run detailed handoffs to operations
What You Bring
- Proven experience as a construction estimator (experienced level)
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods, market conditions, and cost drivers
- Ability to use historical data, production rates, and current market pricing
- Ability to work independently with limited oversight
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with subcontractors and vendors
Preferred
- Hands-on experience with HCSS HeavyBid
- Experience in civil/site development estimating, including self-perform work
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior estimators
Benefits
- Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, and Disability Insurance
- 401(k) with generous company match
- Competitive compensation and growth opportunities
