Original job description

Business Development Manager – Freight Forwarding & Perishables

Location: Miami, FL Industry: Freight Forwarding | International Logistics | Perishables Position: Business Development Manager Travel: Approximately 4–5 trips annually, with additional travel as business needs require

Drive New Business. Build Relationships. Expand International Markets.

An established international freight forwarding and logistics organization is seeking an energetic, proactive, and commercially driven Business Development Manager to expand its presence in the Miami market, with a strong focus on perishables and temperature-sensitive cargo.

This is an opportunity for a motivated sales professional who enjoys building relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and developing solutions that drive revenue and long-term customer partnerships.

The ideal candidate brings a strong freight forwarding sales background, a hunter mentality, and experience developing business in competitive logistics markets.

What You'll Do

• Identify, prospect, and secure new business opportunities across freight forwarding and perishables logistics.

• Develop relationships with importers, exporters, growers, distributors, and strategic logistics partners.

• Drive revenue growth through new customer acquisition, account development, and market expansion.

• Promote air freight, ocean freight, warehousing, customs brokerage, and value-added logistics services.

• Build and execute commercial strategies targeting flowers, fresh produce, seafood, live animals, pharmaceuticals, and other temperature-sensitive commodities.

• Prepare competitive proposals, negotiate commercial agreements, and close profitable business.

• Collaborate with operations, pricing, procurement, and customer service teams to deliver effective logistics solutions.

• Identify opportunities for new trade lanes, customer partnerships, and service expansion.

• Maintain a strong sales pipeline, accurate CRM records, and business development forecasts.

• Represent the organization at customer meetings, industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities.

• Meet or exceed established sales, revenue, and profitability goals.

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience in freight forwarding sales or logistics business development.

• Strong track record of prospecting, generating leads, negotiating agreements, and closing new business.

• Commercially driven professional with an entrepreneurial mindset and a proactive approach to sales.

• Experience selling international air and/or ocean freight solutions.

• Knowledge of perishables logistics, cold chain requirements, or temperature-sensitive cargo strongly preferred.

• Understanding of international transportation, import/export processes, and logistics service offerings.

• Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building abilities.

• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and develop new customer relationships.

• Familiarity with CRM systems and freight forwarding platforms; CargoWise experience is a plus.

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, or a related field.

• English proficiency required; Spanish highly preferred.

• Experience within the Miami/South Florida freight forwarding market highly desirable.

• Valid U.S. work authorization.

• Willingness to travel at least 4–5 times per year for customer meetings, industry events, and business development activities.

What Sets You Apart

You're not simply maintaining existing accounts. You enjoy opening doors, building relationships, identifying customer challenges, and turning those opportunities into profitable business.

You understand the urgency and complexity of international freight forwarding, particularly when dealing with perishable or time-sensitive shipments.

You're comfortable working with customers, negotiating solutions, and partnering with operational teams to ensure the business you win can be successfully delivered.

Most importantly, you bring the energy, initiative, and commercial drive to build a market - not just manage one.

What We Offer

• Competitive compensation and benefits package

• Opportunity to influence business growth and market development

• Exposure to international freight forwarding and global logistics operations

• Professional growth and career development opportunities

• Collaborative environment with operational and commercial support

• Opportunity to develop strategic customer relationships across international markets

Ready to Grow Your Career?

If you're a results-driven freight forwarding sales professional with a passion for business development, international logistics, and building profitable customer relationships, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply today for confidential consideration.
