Original job description

We are seeking a hands-on, business-minded construction professional who understands both field operations and the financial side of running a successful contractor. This individual will work directly with ownership, lead multiple projects, oversee daily operations, develop client relationships, and help guide the company’s continued growth.

This is more than a job - it is an opportunity to build a long-term career with a potential path to ownership.

What You’ll Do

Operations & Leadership

• Oversee daily construction operations across multiple active projects.

• Coordinate manpower, equipment, subcontractors, schedules, and resources.

• Lead and mentor project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field personnel.

• Maintain high standards for safety, quality, productivity, and accountability.

• Step into an increased leadership role when ownership is unavailable.

Project Management & Financial Performance

• Oversee projects from preconstruction through final completion.

• Monitor project schedules, budgets, costs, productivity, and profitability.

• Review contracts, scopes of work, change orders, and project documentation.

• Assist with estimating, bidding, forecasting, and cost control.

• Identify risks early and implement practical solutions to keep projects moving.

Subcontractor & Client Relationships

• Identify, negotiate with, and manage subcontractors and vendors.

• Build strong relationships with clients, engineers, suppliers, and industry partners.

• Resolve project challenges while protecting the company’s reputation and financial interests.

• Participate in project meetings, site visits, and business development efforts.

Business Growth & Future Ownership

• Work directly with company ownership to learn all aspects of the business.

• Help develop operational systems, employee leadership, and customer relationships.

• Contribute to strategic decisions and continued company growth.

• Prepare to assume increasing responsibility for the company’s operations and business management, with the potential for future ownership.

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of progressively responsible construction experience.

• Background in marine construction, foundation construction, heavy civil, commercial construction, or specialty contracting.

• Proven experience managing projects and leading field personnel.

• Strong understanding of construction means and methods, scheduling, sequencing, and productivity.

• Experience with estimating, project budgets, cost control, and financial performance.

• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, contracts, and scopes of work.

• Experience managing subcontractors, vendors, clients, and project stakeholders.

• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

• A hands-on management style and the ability to earn the respect of field and office teams.

• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

• Potential path to ownership: An opportunity to work toward leading and potentially owning the company as the current owners transition toward retirement.

• Direct access to ownership: Work closely with company leadership and have a meaningful voice in business decisions.

• Significant responsibility: Help oversee operations, projects, people, equipment, and financial performance.

• Long-term career growth: Build a future with an established contractor that values technical expertise, quality workmanship, and customer relationships.

  • Competitive compensation: Pay commensurate with experience, leadership ability, and business impact.

Considering: General Superintendent, Director of Operations, Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, or General Manager who is ready for the next chapter of your career.
