Original job description
About the operation
We're an established cattle feeding operation in southwest Kansas, and we're adding an Assistant Cattle Manager who's ready to take the next step in their career.
The role
The Assistant Cattle Manager works alongside the Cattle Manager to keep the cattle side of the yard running well. You'll help lead the cowboy crew, keep cattle healthy, and make sure cattle move in and out of the yard smoothly. Your bonus is tied directly to how well the cattle do, so your work shows up in your pay.
What you'll do
- Help lead and schedule the cowboy and cattle crews
- Oversee pen riding, pulling sick cattle, and treatment so health problems get caught early
- Help coordinate receiving, processing, and shipping cattle
- Keep health and treatment records accurate and complete
- Work with the Cattle Manager and the veterinarian on health protocols
- Train crew members on low-stress cattle handling and safe work practices
- Step in and lead the cattle side when the Cattle Manager is away
What we're looking for
- Experience as a Head Cowboy, Shipping and Receiving Supervisor or Manager, or in a similar feedyard leadership role (strongly preferred)
- A strong eye for sick cattle and solid knowledge of cattle health
- Experience leading a crew and setting the standard on the job
- Dependable, organized, and willing to work the hours cattle need
- Ready to grow into more responsibility
What we offer
- $65,000 to $68,000 base salary
- A bonus based on overall animal health performance
- 2 weeks of paid time off
- A chance to grow your career with a respected operation
