Description Gloucester County is seeking an Assistant Finance Director to join our team. Our finance department is highly skilled, and this individual will strengthen the team by providing steady, proactive leadership, fostering mentorship and collaboration, earning trust, and guiding with clarity and consistency. Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Finance Director plans and directs the County’s Central Accounting functions. This position oversees various functions including financial reporting, budgeting, and central accounting for the County; reviews and approves financial procedures and controls; reviews and approves all disbursements; oversees cash management, debt financing, fixed assets, grant activity, and risk management. Responsible for independently coordinating with external auditors and leading the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.Qualifications
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or a related field required.
- Six (6) or more years of progressively responsible management experience in general accounting and/or governmental accounting with considerable experience working with complex automated financial systems, spreadsheet applications, and financial reporting.
Special Requirements
- Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO).
- Experience with Tyler Munis.
- Possession of certification from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) or the Virginia Government Finance Officers Association (VGFOA).
