Original job description

Who we are:

Globalstar pioneered personal safety by introducing its SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger in 2007. Today, leveraging its low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, Globalstar reliably connects and protects assets, transmits key operational data, and saves lives – from any location – for consumers, industrial companies and government agencies in over 120 countries. With a portfolio that includes SPOT GPS messengers, next-generation IoT products and modems, and cloud-based telematics solutions, Globalstar’s cost effective satellite-powered innovations give users visibility and intelligence for improving safety and operational efficiencies.

What you will be doing at Globalstar

As a Senior Satellite Payload Operations Engineer, you will be a hands-on lead supporting the operation, monitoring, and health of Globalstar’s current and future satellite payloads. You will work with a collaborative team of engineers and satellite operators to monitor and analyze payload telemetry, identify and troubleshoot anomalies, develop and maintain operational procedures and tools, support payload configuration changes, and perform in-orbit testing to ensure payload health and performance throughout the mission lifecycle.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Existing knowledge of Payload Systems Design and Architecture
  • Existing knowledge of Payload sub-system such as passive antennas, frequency conversion schemes, up and down converters, digital channelizers, telemetry transmitter and command receivers, fixed and steerable beamforming concepts and phased array technology is a plus
  • Hands on experience with testing using common RF equipment and understanding general RF testing methodologies
  • Good knowledge of payload units, sub-system and system level test plans with experience in reviewing RF data as well as developing tools to parse and trend RF data
  • Perform all duties related to payload operations and be on call as needed to lead payload anomalies and aid in resolution
  • Perform payload In-Orbit Tests on current and future constellations to assess payload health, perform telemetry trending, and analyze key payload parameters
  • Perform and execute Payload Management Instructions operations
  • Maintain payload configuration, document changes, and optimize payload performance
  • Write, validate, maintain, refine, and execute payload/T&C operational procedures and scripts
  • Develop and maintain payload telemetry dashboards and displays using mission operations tools
  • Perform real-time and long-term payload telemetry monitoring and analysis to identify trends, anomalous behavior, and changes in payload performance
  • Develop and maintain tools and automation to streamline payload monitoring, analysis, and satellite operations
  • Participate in real-time payload operations for nominal operations, anomaly detection, troubleshooting, and recovery
  • Support ground antenna RF testing and interference investigation
  • Provide feedback on design and test data from vendors and ensure vendor satellite requirements are met
  • Provide engineering support to other groups and work with external vendors
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

What you will bring to Globalstar:

  • Bachelor’s or higher in Electrical, Aerospace, or a closely related Engineering field
  • 7+ years of experience in satellite engineering, spacecraft operations, payload operations, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience supporting satellite payload operations
  • Experience developing, validating, maintaining, and executing satellite operational procedures and scripts
  • Experience with satellite telemetry monitoring, trending, analysis, and anomaly investigation
  • Experience participating in real-time nominal, anomaly, troubleshooting, and recovery operations
  • Experience developing and maintaining telemetry dashboards and operational monitoring tools
  • Experience with mission operations software such as Intermission or similar platforms
  • Experience developing engineering tools or automation using Python or similar scripting languages
  • Knowledge of satellite payload systems and their interaction with satellite and ground systems

It’s a bonus if you have:

  • Experience developing and maintaining dashboards for satellite telemetry monitoring, trending, and analysis
  • Experience supporting LEO satellite constellation operations
  • Experience with payload In-Orbit Testing (IOT) and RF payload performance analysis
  • Experience developing automated satellite operational procedures, scripts, or engineering tools
  • Experience supporting satellite simulations, mission rehearsals, and operational readiness activities
  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Aerospace, or a closely related Engineering field

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Mentor junior engineers as required
