Original job description

Bring your curiosity and determination to make a positive impact on the future of transport, and we’ll help you go all the way.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a Project Controls Engineer to support transportation projects across roadway, transit and aviation. You’ll bring together scheduling, cost controls and construction-phase knowledge to give our project teams clear insight into project performance.

You’ll work alongside project managers, engineers and construction professionals, applying your technical experience to complex infrastructure assignments. The role combines detailed project controls work with opportunities to spend time in the field and see how projects are progressing firsthand.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, you will:

  • Develop project baseline schedules and perform schedule reviews, time impact analyses and cost impact analyses.
  • Review construction contractor baseline schedules and monthly updates, providing clear technical recommendations.
  • Perform critical path method (CPM) schedule analyses to identify, measure and report schedule performance.
  • Develop and maintain monthly technical project monitoring reports.
  • Review Time Impact Analysis (TIA) claims and develop alternative analyses, recommendations and negotiation positions related to schedule and cost claims.
  • Visit construction sites periodically to observe and document project schedule performance.
  • Develop Engineer’s Estimates and Independent Cost Estimates, including quantity take-offs and unit pricing.
  • Support project managers with cost analysis, cost tracking, earned value management and change-management cost risk assessments.
  • Perform inspection activities as part of construction-phase services.
  • Support construction administration through reviews of requests for information (RFIs), submittals and change orders.
  • Contribute to other assignments and special projects based on project needs.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant US experience in project controls, construction management and design supporting large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience managing competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated project and time management skills.
  • Experience with scheduling, cost estimating or cost-management software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, RSMeans and Bluebeam.
  • Transportation project experience in cost estimating and scheduling is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licence in Texas Preferred
  • Relevant certification through the Project Management Institute (PMI) or Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) Preferred
  • TxDOT precertifications related to scheduling, estimating or construction Preferred

Travel This role requires up to 20% travel.
