About This Role Geronimo Power is seeking a ROC Operator to join the Remote Operations Center team. The ROC is the centralized monitoring and operational hub for utility-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage system (BESS) assets across multiple North American energy markets. The operator monitors fleet performance, responds to alarms and abnormal conditions, performs authorized control actions, coordinates field activity, documents operational events, and supports applicable reliability, regulatory, market, safety, and company requirements. This is a full-time, salaried position assigned to a 24/7 operating environment. The role requires 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The selected candidate will enter the ROC Operator qualification program as an Operator In-Training and may qualify as a ROC Operator I after completing required training, assessments, simulations, observed shift requirements, and final management qualification review. The typical training period is 3 to 6 months; progression is based on successful qualification and is not automatic.

Responsibilities

Fleet Monitoring and Operations

  • Monitor solar, wind, BESS, and balance-of-plant systems through SCADA, EMS, and related operational platforms.
  • Maintain continuous awareness of fleet operating conditions and respond to alarms using approved procedures.
  • Perform only those remote-control actions, plant mode changes, curtailments, startups, shutdowns, and restoration activities authorized for the assigned qualification level.
  • Escalate non-routine, high-risk, first-time, or non-procedural conditions to qualified operators, engineering, field operations, or leadership.

Event Response and Coordination

  • Coordinate with field technicians, transmission operators, utilities, balancing authorities, and ISO/RTO personnel during operational events, within assigned authorization.
  • Support outage coordination, maintenance activities, approved switching evolutions, and restoration following equipment failures, communications outages, weather events, or grid disturbances.
  • Participate in emergency and abnormal operating condition response activities and follow established notification and escalation protocols.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate shift logs, event records, notifications, outage information, and other operational documentation.
  • Follow approved procedures, work instructions, communication standards, human performance tools, and control-room turnover practices.
  • Support compliance with applicable NERC, ISO/RTO, environmental, safety, records-retention, and company requirements.

Training and Continuous Improvement

  • Complete required classroom training, computer-based training, structured on-the-job training, task performance evaluations, simulations, examinations, and observed shift requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve procedures, alarm response, operational efficiency, and situational awareness.
  • Contribute to lessons learned and operating experience reviews following significant events.

What You’ll Bring Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to learn and consistently apply technical procedures, operating standards, and escalation protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and situational awareness in a continuously monitored environment.
  • Computer proficiency and the ability to work across multiple applications and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Electrical Technology, Power Systems, Engineering Technology, Renewable Energy Technology, or a related field.
  • Utility, military, power generation, transmission, distribution, dispatch, control-room, or industrial process experience.
  • Experience operating utility-scale solar, wind, or battery storage facilities.
  • Familiarity with PJM, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, or other ISO/RTO operations.
  • Experience with OSI Monarch, Ignition, OSI PI, or similar operational platforms.
  • PJM Generation Certification; NERC System Operator Certification (RC, BT, BI, or TO); or FEMA ICS/NIMS training.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Safety-first and compliance-focused decision-making
  • Strong situational awareness and conservative operations
  • Accurate procedure use, documentation, and shift turnover
  • Timely escalation and clear communication
  • Ownership, accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning
  • Consistent use of human performance tools

What You’ll Get

Pay Range for the posted level: $34.62 - $43.17 per hour plus target annual bonus opportunity of 10%.
