Job Summary:

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an EMI/EMC Engineer to join the Electrical Engineering Department within the ASI Division. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on testing, system-level problem solving, and working with advanced unmanned air vehicle systems. The successful candidate will support Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing, helping ensure that these systems operate safely and reliably in demanding electromagnetic environments. In this role, you will plan, conduct, and document EMI/EMC tests for unmanned air vehicle systems and related equipment. You will work closely with electrical, systems, and test engineers to identify potential electromagnetic compatibility issues, analyze test results, support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations, and contribute to the development of effective solutions. You will also support broader electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) activities across the system lifecycle.

This position provides an opportunity to contribute to advanced aerospace programs while gaining experience in system integration, laboratory testing, requirements verification, and electromagnetic environmental effects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working in a hands-on test environment, and motivated to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

This is a full-time, on-site position. Travel to test facilities and other off-site locations will be required. Remote work is not available.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform EMI/EMC testing of all electrical and electronic equipment from the component level through the complete air vehicle level.
  • Collaborate with other engineering departments to define, procure, and develop test support equipment
  • Perform bench and anechoic chamber testing
  • Design EMI/EMC test cables and test setups using Visio and other tools.
  • Travel to flight test facilities as required to support aircraft testing.
  • Travel to 3rd party test labs as required to support EMI/EMC testing.
  • Generate test procedures, test reports, and other documentation to support qualification to EMI/EMC standards, such as, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, and RTCA DO-160.
  • Review electrical/electronic schematics and system designs to perform EMI/EMC analysis and provide design recommendations and best practices.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to perform system-level risk assessments and support requirements development for E3, EMI, and EMC.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot EMC/EMI issues and support design teams in resolving failures and implementing best practices
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have basic understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to quickly understand new concepts and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and organize work assignments to meet established schedules and timetables.
  • Must have hands on experience with lab test equipment, such as, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers, and power supplies.
  • Working knowledge of commercial or military EMI/EMC test procedures - FCC, CE, RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD 461 or MIL-STD-464.
  • Experience performing and/or witnessing EMI/EMC testing.
  • Familiarity with other aspects of EMC including ESD, EMP, TEMPEST and lightning induced transients.
  • Familiarity with Airworthiness concepts and processes
  • Familiarity with LABVIEW for automating EMI tests.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC/E3 simulation software such as Ansys.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC test automation software such as emcware, TILE!, or equivalent.
