Job Description Summary As a Lead Inspection Engineer within the Advance Manufacturing and Repair Technologies (AMRT) Inspection Team, you will develop and deploy inspection and measurement solutions that support the manufacture and repair of critical gas turbine components, within the Repair Value Stream (RVS). We are seeking an engineer to strengthen our airflow capabilities by combining component-level knowledge with hands-on fixture design, vendor management, and project leadership.

In this role, you will own the technical development, documentation, and deployment of airflow inspection fixtures and processes. You will work cross-functionally within the organization to understand specific component airflow requirements, contribute to and perform fixture design, manage external vendors, and lead projects from concept through implementation. You will be responsible for improving documentation and driving best practices and standards across the network. You will partner with repair engineering, other AMRT special process teams, repair service centers, and quality teams to ensure airflow inspection solutions are accurate, repeatable, and scalable.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead airflow-related projects end to end, including scoping, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and stakeholder communication
  • Apply component-level knowledge (such as cooling features, flow paths, and sealing surfaces) to define fixture requirements, interfaces, and inspection methods
  • Design, develop, and validate airflow inspection fixtures and tooling for turbine components using NX and airflow software
  • Identify, qualify, and manage external vendors for fixture fabrication, machining, instrumentation, and related services, including RFQs, technical specifications, design reviews, and acceptance/buy-off activities
  • Develop, maintain, and continually improve technical documentation surrounding airflow, including drawings, models, special process documents, inspection procedures, and validation reports
  • Collaborate with repair / design engineering, manufacturing, service centers, quality, and supply chain teams to align inspection requirements with component needs
  • Drive continuous improvement in airflow inspection standards, while improving capability, and reducing cycle time / cost
  • Standardize the fixture validation, fixture qualification, and measurement system analysis activities associated with the industrialization of airflow fixtures to production environments.
  • Support internal and external customer needs, and help prioritize the airflow work backlog with the team leader

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, fixture design, or a related field within the manufacturing industry

OR in lieu of degree;

  • Minimum of 9 years of experience in engineering, fixture design, manufacturing, or a related field within the manufacturing industry

Must have the ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%

Desired Characteristics

  • Familiarity with gas turbine hot gas path components and repair processes, or component-level knowledge of turbomachinery or similar precision-engineered parts
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX (3D modeling, assemblies, and drafting), with hands-on fixture design experience, GD&T application, datum strategy, and tolerance stack-up
  • Proven project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and managing multiple concurrent priorities
  • Experience identifying, qualifying, and working with vendors (e.g., quoting, technical negotiations, delivery follow-up)
  • Working or direct knowledge of airflow/flow measurement principles and inspection practices such as calibration, correlation, and instrumentation.
  • Strong problem solving, written, verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally, using a data driven approach
  • Familiarity with or experience with integrating PLC’s, motors, pneumatics, and electrical systems
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior engineers and comfort with working in both an office and shop-floor/lab environment
  • Knowledge of additional inspection technologies (e.g., CMM, optical/structured light, CT, or other NDT methods) and experience with measurement system analysis (MSA), gauge R&R, and statistical tools
