About the Opportunity

GAMA-1 Technologies, LLC seeks an experienced UI/UX-focused Software Engineer II to build high-quality, accessible, and maintainable user interfaces using modern React and TypeScript in a remote work environment. The candidate will work closely with designers, product managers, and backend engineers to turn UX designs into intuitive, responsive applications. The successful candidate will deliver interfaces that are easy to use, accessible to all users, and simple for the team to maintain and build on.

Requirements

What You Will Do in This Role

The Software Engineer II will build and maintain accessible, responsive user interfaces using React and TypeScript, working closely with designers and engineers to turn UX designs into production-ready applications backed by automated testing, API integration, and a Git-based development workflow.

Responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain production-grade web interfaces using React (hooks, composition patterns, and React 19-era best practices) and TypeScript with strict typing
  • Translate product requirements and UX designs into accessible, semantic HTML and responsive layouts that work seamlessly across devices
  • Develop scalable, maintainable styles grounded in modern CSS fundamentals, working across Sass, MUI, USWDS, and StyleX
  • Implement automated testing, including unit, integration, and component tests (Vitest/Jest, React Testing Library), along with end-to-end coverage (Playwright or similar)
  • Integrate with REST/JSON APIs, managing async state, loading and error states, pagination, and authenticated requests
  • Participate in a Git-based merge-request workflow, including branching, code reviews, CI pipelines (GitLab CI preferred), and pre-commit hooks
  • Work with modern build tools (Vite or similar) and package managers (Yarn/npm), including private registries
  • Collaborate closely with designers to refine UX flows, maintain design consistency, and ensure production-ready implementation
  • Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine the feasibility of designs within time and cost constraints
  • Confer with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and others to design systems and obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What You Will Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an IT-related field
  • 3+ years of experience building production applications with React (hooks, composition, and React 19-era patterns) in TypeScript with strict typing, along with solid modern JavaScript skills
  • Strong HTML/CSS fundamentals, including semantic markup, layout, and responsive design; because our stack spans Sass, MUI, USWDS, and StyleX, a strong command of CSS is more important than expertise in any single library
  • Experience with automated testing, including unit and component tests (Vitest/Jest, React Testing Library), plus some end-to-end testing experience (Playwright or similar)
  • Experience using Git in a merge-request workflow, including branching, code review, CI pipelines (GitLab CI preferred), and pre-commit hooks
  • Experience consuming REST/JSON APIs, including managing async state, loading and error handling, pagination, and auth-aware requests
  • Familiarity with modern build tooling (Vite or similar) and package management (Yarn/npm, private registries)
  • Ability to work well with others, collaborate, and communicate effectively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or contributing to a component library or design system, including tokens, theming, Storybook, and headless primitives (Radix or similar)
  • Experience working closely with UI/UX designers to turn designs into reusable components
  • Experience with forms and data-heavy UIs, including schema validation (Zod), TanStack Form/Table, and complex filtering and search
  • Experience with lightweight state management (Zustand, nanostores) and reactive patterns (RxJS)
  • Experience with functional or typed-FP TypeScript (Effect, ts-pattern, discriminated unions, exhaustive matching), or an interest in learning it
  • Experience with Astro or another islands/SSG framework
  • Experience with static-site deployment to AWS (S3/CloudFront) and familiarity with SSO/edge-auth setups
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices

Work authorization/security clearance requirements

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.

Work Environment

  • This work is normally completed in a remote environment.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's and client facilities.

Travel Required

  • No

Proficiency Requirement

  • The employee is expected to demonstrate proficiency in all essential job functions, tools, and processes related to this position within the first 90 days of employment. This includes acquiring a thorough understanding of job-specific responsibilities, systems, and workflows as outlined during onboarding and training. Failure to meet this requirement may result in additional training, reassessment, or other actions as deemed necessary by management.
