Engagement Manager
Department: Client Success Team
Reports to: VP, Consulting
Location: Westborough MA or Lincolnshire IL
Experience Level: 3–6 years
About the Role:
We're looking for an Engagement Manager to be the connective tissue between our clients and our engineering teams. This role is a blend of customer service, project coordination, and technical operations - you won't be writing engineering deliverables yourself, but you'll understand them well enough to spot risk early, translate technical realities into plain language for clients, and keep projects running smoothly from the client's side of the table.
This is a great fit for someone who has spent a few years in a client-facing or delivery-coordination role and wants more ownership, more variety, and more exposure to real engineering work - without needing a deep technical background to succeed.
You'll typically own the relationship across a portfolio of projects for a set of clients - sometimes a handful of small, fast-moving jobs, sometimes a single large, multi-year program - so no two weeks look the same.
What You'll Do:
Client Relationship & Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, building trust through responsiveness, transparency, and follow-through
- Run regular check-ins and status updates, tailoring the level of detail to each client's preferences and technical fluency
- Surface client concerns, feedback, and satisfaction issues early - before they become escalations
- Manage expectations proactively, especially when timelines, scope, or budget are at risk
Coordination & Delivery Support
- Track project schedules, budgets, and deliverables in partnership with technical leads, flagging risks and dependencies before they cause delays
- Coordinate resourcing conversations with technical leads and leadership to keep projects adequately staffed
- Own commercial administration: scope changes, change orders and contract milestones
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date project status across your portfolio and report roll-up health to leadership
Technical Operations
- Develop enough working knowledge of our engineering disciplines and project types to follow technical conversations, ask informed questions, and know when something needs escalation
- Partner with technical leads to understand risk, technical tradeoffs, and progress - and translate that accurately for clients without oversimplifying or overpromising
- Identify patterns across your portfolio (recurring risks, resourcing gaps, client pain points) and feed them back into internal process improvement
What Success Looks Like:
- Clients trust you and view you as looking out for their interests, not just relaying status
- Projects in your portfolio stay on schedule and budget, or risks are flagged early enough to act on
- Technical teams see you as a helpful partner who removes friction, not someone who adds process for its own sake
- Client retention and satisfaction scores across your accounts are strong
What We're Looking For:
- 3–6 years of experience in a client-facing, delivery, or coordination role - examples include customer success, client/professional services, project coordination, account management, or technical/solutions support
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities without losing track of details
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfort delivering both good news and hard news to clients
- Curiosity about technical work and a track record of picking up new domains quickly - no engineering degree required, but you should be someone who isn't intimidated by technical conversations
- Sound judgment about when to solve something yourself and when to escalate
- A service mindset paired with backbone: you can empathize with a frustrated client while still holding a firm, honest line on scope, budget, or timeline
Why This Role:
This is a career-track role, not a dead end. Strong Engagement Managers grow into larger, more complex accounts and programs, and this role is a strong foundation for future paths in account management, program leadership, or operations. You'll get direct exposure to how engineering projects are actually run, close working relationships with technical leadership, and ownership over outcomes that matter - both to clients and to our business.
The base salary for this position is $85,000 to $125,000 annually, and the role is bonus eligible.
The final salary offer is determined by factors such as experience, location, skills, education, and market conditions. **
