Original job description
About Four Sea Group, Inc. Four Sea Group is a 100% employee-owned technical mission support company based in Denver, Colorado. Founded by an aerospace industry veteran and PhD astrophysicist, we support complex defense, space, software, systems, and mission-focused programs for government and industry partners. What sets FSG apart is the caliber of our people and the way we operate: we are a reputation-driven team of highly skilled engineers and technical experts who are brought in for their depth, judgment, and ability to solve difficult problems. As an employee-owned company, we have built our compensation, benefits, and culture around a simple idea: when the company succeeds, that value should go back to the people doing the work.
About the role Four Sea Group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in DevOps to define and advance secure, reliable, and repeatable software-delivery and infrastructure capabilities for complex customer programs.
This role contributes directly to Four Sea Group’s ability to rapidly mature and deploy mission-critical software by establishing and improving technical approaches for infrastructure provisioning, continuous integration and deployment, containerization, monitoring, configuration management, and embedded security. The engineer will develop reusable automation and technical standards while solving difficult problems that affect software development, infrastructure, integration, test, and cybersecurity teams.
The ideal candidate combines deep Terraform expertise with strong AWS, Kubernetes, Linux, CI/CD, and automation experience. Depending on experience and demonstrated scope, the engineer may own major platform or infrastructure areas, define reusable technical approaches and standards, guide other engineers, or serve as a technical authority for complex DevOps and software-delivery challenges.
This role requires independent technical judgment, strong systems thinking, and the ability to balance reliability, security, scalability, schedule, cost, and mission requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Typically 8+ years of relevant software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure automation, or automated software-delivery experience, with level determined by demonstrated technical scope, complexity, autonomy, and leadership.
- Active DoD TS/SCI with CI Poly security clearance at the time of application.
- Current Security+ certification.
- Strong hands-on experience using Terraform to provision and manage infrastructure.
- Strong experience administering and supporting AWS environments.
- Advanced experience deploying, administering, and troubleshooting Kubernetes environments.
- Linux administration and troubleshooting experience.
- Advanced experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, Bamboo, or comparable technologies.
- Strong scripting and automation experience using Bash, Python, PowerShell, or a comparable language.
- Experience automating software builds, testing, security scans, quality checks, deployments, infrastructure provisioning, and system-management activities.
- Experience with Git-based version control and collaborative software-development workflows.
- Experience defining or implementing build, deployment, provisioning, and monitoring standards within a complex software-delivery environment.
- Experience integrating automated testing, code-quality, code-coverage, static-analysis, or security tools into delivery pipelines.
- Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles and the integration of security controls into software-delivery workflows.
- Experience with at least three of the following technologies or capability areas: Flux, Helm, DynamoDB, NATS, Big Bang, Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Jenkins, GitLab, or Bamboo.
- Ability to independently own a major DevOps, platform, infrastructure, or software-delivery area and determine appropriate technical approaches.
- Ability to independently resolve difficult issues spanning infrastructure, pipelines, deployments, containers, cloud platforms, applications, networking, monitoring, and security controls.
- Ability to evaluate system or application performance, identify bottlenecks or operational risks, and implement solutions in collaboration with development teams.
- Ability to communicate technical decisions, risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs across engineering and program teams.
- Experience providing technical guidance or coordinating work across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- All candidates must work in-person in Aurora; this position is not eligible for virtual work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Terraform experience, including development or maintenance of reusable modules, standards, or provisioning patterns.
- Experience implementing GitOps workflows using Flux or comparable technologies.
- Experience developing and maintaining Helm charts or Helm-based deployment patterns.
- Experience administering or supporting DynamoDB.
- Experience configuring or supporting NATS.
- Experience with Big Bang or comparable secure Kubernetes platform environments.
- Experience implementing observability and monitoring solutions using Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, or comparable technologies.
- Experience defining or supporting security, backup, redundancy, and recovery strategies for mission-critical systems.
- Experience developing software or infrastructure capabilities for U.S. Government, defense, intelligence, or other secure mission environments.
- Experience improving system efficiency and reducing manual intervention through automation.
- Experience supporting production systems, troubleshooting incidents, analyzing performance, and restoring degraded services.
- Experience providing technical guidance or mentoring to software, DevOps, platform, or infrastructure engineers.
- Experience defining reusable DevOps, infrastructure, platform, or deployment standards used across a broader engineering team or program.
- Experience architecting solutions to complex or ambiguous infrastructure and software-delivery problems spanning multiple technical domains.
- Experience serving as a trusted technical resource for engineering, program, cybersecurity, or customer stakeholders.
- Experience working across software development, integration, test, infrastructure, and cybersecurity teams.
- Experience with SAFe or another scaled Agile framework.
