Original job description

Product Creation and Industrialization (PC&I) brings together Ford’s vehicle, electric, digital and design teams with our global manufacturing system. Working as one end-to-end organization, we turn ideas into high-quality vehicles, software and experiences across gas, hybrid and electric, designed around what customers need.

This role supports Forward Model Quality and works in close partnership with system triage and issue resolution teams.

In this position... You will help ensure that upcoming vehicle programs launch with fewer electronics and software issues by driving issues to resolution, turning issue data into actionable insights, and helping system triage, issue resolution, and quality teams organize and focus their AI efforts. You will help teams find where AI can make their work easier, connect overlapping efforts, share what works, and turn promising ideas into tools that teams use every day. You will also own the definitions, data quality, dashboards, and reporting cadence that give leaders a clear, trusted view of triage, resolution, and forward model quality health. Working across quality, engineering, and triage leadership, you will deliver measurable gains in quality, efficiency, issue-resolution performance, and launch readiness. What you'll do...

  • Launch issue response: Support rapid, cross-functional response to emerging electronics and software issues during forward model development, prototype and pre-production builds, launch, and early production. Track issues through containment and resolution, support launch-readiness reviews, and capture lessons learned for engineering.
  • Milestone issue closure: Drive electronics and software issues on forward model programs to verified closure ahead of key program milestones, so that programs reach launch with a clean, well-understood issue list.
  • Launch quality metrics: Define and track forward model quality measures such as issue burn-down to program milestones, repeat issues, and 8D closure timing, and report launch readiness to leadership.
  • Repeat issue prevention: Use insights from current and past models to inform forward model design reviews, DFMEAs, test plans, and lessons learned so the same issues do not carry into future programs.
  • Organizing team AI efforts: Help system triage and issue resolution teams organize their AI work by maintaining a shared view of active ideas and projects, helping teams set priorities, connecting overlapping efforts, and keeping work focused on real triage and resolution problems.
  • AI guidance and connections: Help teams find existing tools, data, and approved platforms before building something new, and connect them with the right AI, data, and cybersecurity contacts when needed so their work stays safe and supportable.
  • AI enablement and sharing: Supervise a small team that coaches engineers on practical AI use through hands-on sessions, office hours, and shared examples. Capture and share what works so teams can reuse solutions instead of starting over.
  • Issue resolution driving: Drive electronics and software issues to closure by confirming ownership, setting clear next steps and due dates, removing blockers, and escalating at-risk issues. Hold teams accountable for timely containment, root cause, corrective action, and verified closure.
  • Triage support: Apply vehicle, system, and cross-feature knowledge to support system-level triage and troubleshooting. Use AI tools to improve signal detection, evidence synthesis, issue routing, and prioritization.
  • Metric leadership: Own the metrics for system triage and issue resolution, including definitions, data sources, targets, dashboards, and reporting cadence. Track measures such as time to triage, time to resolution, issue aging, backlog, throughput, reopen rate, issue-intake quality, and AI adoption, and use them to identify trends and drive action.
  • Issue resolution insights: Analyze issue, warranty, and field data to identify recurring failure modes and systemic causes, and turn those insights into clear, practical actions for engineering and triage teams.
  • Data quality and sources of truth: Establish and maintain data standards, classification fields, and Jira hygiene so that metrics are accurate, consistent, and trusted across test, triage, systems, and development teams.
  • Process execution and improvement: Execute and continuously improve processes for issue intake, triage, escalation, reprioritization, closure, and learning. Reinforce clear ownership, criteria, and decision paths, and integrate AI with appropriate traceability and human review.
  • Hackathons and pilots: Support hackathons and small pilots focused on real triage and issue-resolution problems. Help teams evaluate results, assign owners, and turn successful ideas into tools they use day to day.
  • Reporting and communication: Prepare clear, executive-ready reporting on metrics, insights, and risks for leadership. Partner with product, program, software, hardware, systems engineering, validation, manufacturing, service, and quality teams to keep stakeholders aligned.

You'll have...

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in automotive systems, software, electronics, quality, systems engineering, product development, or a related technical discipline, including experience driving cross-functional projects or issues to completion.
  • Program management: Demonstrated experience managing technical programs or projects, including scope, schedules, dependencies, risks, and status reporting.
  • Metrics and analytics: Experience defining metrics, building dashboards, and using data to track performance, identify trends, prioritize work, and improve issue-resolution outcomes.
  • AI and digital tools: Experience supporting, deploying, or using AI-enabled or digital solutions to improve technical or business outcomes, and the ability to translate operational problems into practical use cases.
  • Technical knowledge: Working knowledge of vehicle electronics and software, including architecture, interfaces, diagnostics, failure modes, and system-level troubleshooting.
  • Communication and collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to drive accountability across cross-functional teams and present status, metrics, and risks clearly to leaders.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead or coordinate a small team, develop others, and deliver results through disciplined execution and influence.

Even better, you may have...

  • Education: Master’s degree in a technical, data, artificial intelligence, or management field, or a project management certification (e.g., PMP).
  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in automotive electrical, electronic, software, systems, or quality engineering.
  • Experience helping engineering teams identify, organize, and deliver AI, analytics, or automation ideas from concept through everyday use.
  • Experience supervising a small technical team or leading work across a matrixed organization.
  • Experience in forward model or new-vehicle quality, including prototype builds, launch readiness, and rapid response to electrical and software quality concerns.
  • Analytics tools: Proficiency with dashboarding and data tools such as Power BI, Jira dashboards, SQL, or Python.
  • AI solution knowledge: Working familiarity with generative AI, machine learning, intelligent automation, evaluation methods, and responsible-AI controls, including the need for human review before AI results influence engineering or quality decisions.
  • Ford-specific knowledge: Knowledge of Ford product-development and issue-management processes and tools, including AVBOM, WERS, AIMS, 8Ds, eFDVS, Jama, Engineering Sign Off, DFMEA, Six Sigma, Confluence, and Jira applications.
  • Innovation support: Experience planning or running hackathons, pilots, or rapid experiments.
  • Continuous improvement mindset: Curiosity and a strong bias for practical application, experimentation, learning, and measurable improvement in engineering quality and efficiency.
