Original job description

Ford Pro is a global business within Ford Motor Company focused on delivering productivity solutions to commercial customers. We offer a comprehensive suite of vehicles, charging infrastructure, software, and services tailored to fleet and business needs. Our Ford Pro Intelligence technology team, within the broader Vehicle Cloud and Mobile Division, powers the digital backbone of Ford Pro Telematics and Data Services.

Ford Pro Telematics gives you a near-real-time window into your fleet, providing the data and insights you need to help improve performance, reduce downtime and streamline operations.

In this position...

We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and grow our DevOps team . This leader will shape the team’s direction, strengthen its operating practices, and help engineering teams build, deploy, and run software reliably.

The ideal candidate is a people manager who believes in building strong teams and developing talent. They bring the judgment to navigate cross-functional priorities and organizational dynamics, along with enough technical depth to guide DevOps and platform engineering work.

What you’ll do…

Lead, coach, and develop a team of DevOps engineers, setting clear goals and supporting their growth, engagement, and career development.
Hire and retain talent, build a healthy and inclusive team culture, and foster accountability, collaboration, and ownership.
Set team direction and priorities in partnership with engineering, product, security, and operations stakeholders.
Improve the tools and practices that help engineering teams build, test, deploy, and operate services safely and efficiently.
Guide the evolution of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, cloud platforms, and developer self-service capabilities.
Promote reliability and operational readiness through observability, incident response, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.
Help teams balance delivery speed, system reliability, security, quality, and cost.
Establish useful engineering standards and paved paths without adding unnecessary process or slowing teams down.
Lead in Agile environments, supporting effective sprint planning and execution and improving delivery practices and velocity.
Partner with technical leads on architectural and operational decisions while maintaining clear ownership and accountability.
Communicate the team’s plans, priorities, progress, and risks clearly to senior leaders and cross-functional partners.
Navigate competing priorities and disagreements constructively, build alignment through trust, and maintain team focus through ambiguity or change.

How success will be measured…

The team has clear priorities, strong engagement, and meaningful opportunities for growth.
Engineering teams can deliver changes more safely and efficiently using reliable, well-supported platform capabilities.
Operational practices help teams identify and address reliability issues, incidents, and recurring sources of toil.
Cross-functional partners understand the team’s priorities and work with it effectively.
The team’s roadmap balances reliability, security, developer experience, and delivery needs.

You'll have...

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
5+ years of experience directly managing software engineering teams, with a proven track record of hiring, mentoring, developing, and retaining talent.
10+ years of experience in software engineering and/or DevOps.
Extensive experience leading teams in Agile environments, including managing sprints and improving delivery practices and velocity.
Strong understanding of DevOps and platform engineering practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure automation, cloud infrastructure, observability, and production operations.
Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage delivery commitments, and balance speed, reliability, security, and quality.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the maturity to navigate cross-functional priorities and build alignment.
A continuous-improvement mindset and a focus on making engineering systems and team practices more effective.

Even better, you may have...

Experience delivering and operating high-scale web applications and telemetry solutions.
Experience with GCP. Experience with other major cloud platforms is also relevant.
Familiarity with tools and practices such as Terraform, Kubernetes, GitOps, and modern CI/CD systems.
Experience improving developer experience, platform reliability, or the scalability of shared engineering services.
Experience leading teams through platform modernization, organizational change, or operational improvement.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder…or all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:

Immediate medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage
Paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments and more
Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
Tuition assistance
Established and active employee resource groups
Paid time off for individual and team community service
Generous vacation time, sick/personal time, and paid holidays, including between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $165,000-$200,000.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

Internal applicants: moving into this role may result in an adjustment to your current compensation based on the posted pay range for this role, taking into consideration your qualifications and other relevant factors.
