Original job description

We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.

Product Creation and Industrialization (PC&I) brings together Ford’s vehicle, electric, digital and design teams with our global manufacturing system. Working as one end-to-end organization, we turn ideas into high-quality vehicles, software and experiences across gas, hybrid and electric, designed around what c In this position... We're looking for a Software Supervisor to drive technical strategy and hands-on delivery across both UI and backend/API layers of a large-scale, cloud-native vehicle telematics connected-services platform. This is a high-autonomy, high-influence role: you'll partner directly with product owners and cross-functional engineering teams to shape technical direction, unblock ambiguous problems, and raise the bar on engineering quality - while still writing and reviewing production code yourself.

What you'll do...

  • Own end-to-end technical design and delivery for features spanning UI and backend services - from requirements discovery through production rollout.
  • Act as technical lead on complex, multi-team initiatives - break down cross-cutting work into clear workstreams, sequence dependencies across teams, surface and resolve blockers proactively, and keep delivery on track against committed timelines without formal management authority.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for a project across its lifecycle - aligning multiple engineering teams, product owners, and architects around a single technical plan and keeping them in sync as the plan evolves.
  • Identify delivery risk early (scope creep, unclear ownership, slipping dependencies) and drive mitigation - including making pragmatic tradeoff calls under time pressure.
  • Partner with product managers, program managers, and other engineering teams to translate business/strategic goals into technical roadmaps; represent engineering in cross-team design reviews and planning.
  • Investigate and resolve complex, ambiguous production issues across distributed microservices - tracing problems through code, configuration, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud logs/observability tools to find true root cause (not just symptoms).
  • Champion a quality-first engineering culture: drive test automation strategy (unit, integration, BDD/acceptance), push for regression coverage on every fix, and mentor others on testing discipline.
  • Evaluate and guide adoption of frameworks/library upgrades (e.g., major version migrations) across multiple services, anticipating and documenting subtle breaking-change risks before they hit production.
  • Author clear technical documentation and discovery/assessment briefs that non-engineering stakeholders can use to make go/no-go decisions.
  • Self-start into unfamiliar codebases/domains with minimal onboarding - read code, configs, pipelines, and docs to build context independently, then act.

You'll Have...

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience, including backend development with Java and/or Kotlin and experience building services with Spring Boot.
  • 3+ years of experience working with cloud platforms and infrastructure, including GCP, AWS, Azure, or equivalent cloud technologies.
  • 2+ years of experience developing technical architecture, technical discovery, feasibility assessments, or technical assessment documentation used to support business or technical decision-making.
  • 1+ year of experience serving as a technical lead or leading technical delivery across multi-team or cross-functional software projects.
  • 1+ year of frontend development experience using React, TypeScript, or a comparable modern UI framework.

Even better, you may have...

  • Experience with Spring Security, OAuth2, reactive programming patterns, and Spring WebFlux.
  • Experience designing and developing REST and GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience defining or driving quality and testing strategies across multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience leading complex software initiatives from discovery and kickoff through production deployment.
  • Experience with connected products, IoT, automotive technologies, hardware-software integration, or device/vehicle telemetry.
  • Experience with cloud-native monitoring, logging, and observability practices.
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence, or comparable enterprise collaboration and work-management platforms.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply! As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder…or all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage
  • Paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
  • Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases

  • Established and active employee resource groups

  • Generous vacation time, sick/personal time, and paid holidays, including between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day
