Original job description
Build hands-on instrumentation and automation skills that keep Flywheel's oil and gas production running safely and reliably.
Why this role matters
Instrumentation and controls are the nervous system of Flywheel's production operations, and even small failures in field equipment can halt production, create safety hazards, or trigger regulatory issues. This role builds the bench strength Flywheel needs to keep that nervous system healthy, with a technician who grows into a trusted expert over time. Investing in an entry-level I&E tech today means Flywheel has the skilled, culture-fit talent it needs to scale reliably tomorrow.
The I&E Tech I is an entry-level role on Flywheel's Field team, built for someone eager to develop real-world skills in instrumentation, control systems, and automation across oil and gas production and pipeline operations. Working under direct supervision, you will assist with installing, commissioning, calibrating, and troubleshooting field instruments like pressure transmitters, flow meters, level sensors, and control valves, while also supporting low-voltage electrical work in classified hazardous areas. You will use SCADA platforms, PLCs, and a CMMS to keep accurate records and help senior technicians solve problems in the field. This role is a structured starting point with a clear path toward Automation Technician II, and it rewards people who show up coachable, safety-minded, and ready to grow.

- Maintain accurate records of work orders, calibration data sheets, as-built drawings, and equipment histories in the CMMS
- Work in compliance with all HSE policies, OSHA regulations, API standards, and site-specific procedures
- Participate actively in daily safety meetings and job safety analyses
Growth & Development
- Complete assigned training programs, certifications, and on-the-job development plans to progress toward I&E Tech II qualifications

How we work: 100% Awesome Teammates
High-performing, self-directed teams made up of 100% awesome teammates: people who are very good at their jobs and who live our core behaviors every day. Every new hire should raise our ability to reach our goals, so we are ridiculously selective about who joins us.
- Do the Right Thing. Responsible development, honest feedback and doing what we said we would. In this role: In this role, Do the Right Thing looks like completing calibration records accurately and completely every time, even when no one is watching and the paperwork feels tedious.
- Do it as a Team. No silos. Information moves between teams as freely as it does within one. In this role: In this role, Do it as a Team looks like communicating clearly with senior technicians when something is beyond your current skill level, so the team can solve it together without lost time or safety risk.
- Get Results. Disciplined execution and value creation. We measure ourselves by outcomes. In this role: In this role, Get Results looks like closing work orders on schedule, keeping instruments calibrated and documented, and steadily checking off the development milestones that move you toward I&E Tech II.
Is this you?
Successful Flywheelers are hungry, humble and people smart.
- Hungry: You actively seek out learning opportunities in the field, ask senior techs to explain the why behind every task, and come to each shift ready to take on more than you did the day before.
- Humble: You accept coaching and correction from senior technicians without defensiveness, knowing that every piece of feedback makes you a safer and more capable tech.
- People Smart: You read the situation on a job site well enough to know when to ask a question, when to stay quiet and observe, and how to communicate a problem clearly so the right person can act on it fast.
