Chief Estimator

Lead estimating while staying directly involved in complex bids and project budgets. We are seeking a Chief Estimator who combines strong civil construction knowledge with the judgment to assess risk, develop people, and improve estimating consistency.

Sports Fields, Inc. (FIELDS) is a 100% employee-owned contractor specializing in the construction, renovation, and maintenance of athletic fields and sports facilities. We deliver natural grass and synthetic turf projects for schools, municipalities, recreation organizations, and sports venues.

What You Will Do

• Direct estimating workload, bid calendars, and quality reviews; coach estimators and develop team capabilities.
• Prepare and review conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, subcontractor comparisons, and final bid packages.
• Review quantities, production rates, labor, equipment, materials, logistics, indirect costs, and contingencies for completeness.
• Identify scope gaps, site risks, schedule constraints, and commercial concerns; recommend pricing strategies to leadership.
• Coordinate with business development, design, purchasing, and construction on project selection, constructability, and value engineering.
• Lead estimating software evaluation and implementation; standardize templates, cost codes, and historical cost databases.
• Use accounting and job cost feedback to improve production assumptions and lead thorough handoffs to construction.

What You Bring

• At least 8 years of construction estimating experience, including responsibility for estimate review and team leadership.
• Strong background in civil construction, sitework, grading, and drainage; athletic field experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to lead concurrent pursuits and explain estimate assumptions and risks to management.
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with estimating and takeoff systems; experience improving estimating processes.
• Degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience welcomed.
