The Role
We are seeking a seasoned and technically strong Director, Workflow Automation and Platform Engineering to lead the evolution of OpsWorX from an operations workstation into an enterprise platform. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of a transformational modernization journey - reimagining a mission-critical workstation as a platform where domain teams contribute their own UI experiences, built from reusable, connected components. You will play a defining role in shaping how operations users interact with technology, modernizing aging systems onto a container-based, interop-connected architecture, integrating BPMN workflow orchestration, and embedding agentic AI into operations workflows. Beyond engineering delivery, you will own the delivery roadmap, drive technology strategy, and lead a high-performing team, operating independently toward high-level objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy, Roadmap and Planning
- Assisting the VP of Engineering in developing and implementing a multi-year technology strategy for OpsWorX platform modernization and workflow automation
- Partnering closely with the Product Manager and VP of Engineering to build a delivery roadmap balancing modernization, automation, regulatory compliance, and operational stability
- Translating high-level objectives into actionable engineering plans with clear milestones, resource requirements, and success metrics
- Defining a reusable component strategy - workflow patterns, connectors, task UIs, and SDKs - that domain teams adopt to build experiences and automate processes
- Partnering with product management, UX, operations, domain teams, and business stakeholders to align technology delivery with business goals
- Driving a consistent, seamless platform experience across interop-connected applications, workflows, and components
- Establishing design principles, platform standards, and a governance and contribution model so OpsWorX evolves as a coherent platform
- Communicating technical strategy and delivery roadmaps clearly to technical and non-technical executive audiences Organizational Leadership
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of engineers, including talent development, resource planning, and associate growth
- Fostering a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Inspiring and aligning the team around a shared platform modernization and automation vision through a complex transformation Delivery and Execution
- Owning end-to-end engineering delivery - from backlog refinement and sprint planning through release management and production deployment - balancing velocity with quality, reliability, and security in a regulated financial environment
- Establishing and monitoring KPIs for delivery health, reliability, platform adoption, component reuse, and business outcomes such as manual effort eliminated
- Removing organizational blockers and dependencies that impede engineering execution, escalating appropriately and decisively
- Driving incident management, root cause analysis, and operational stability improvements across the platform
- Owning technology lifecycle management, keeping applications and platform components on current versions, standards, and best practices
- Leading delivery of agentic AI within operations workflows - BPMN-orchestrated LLM agents with policy controls, human review steps, and audit trails
- Championing AI-assisted development across the SDLC - code generation, automated testing, and code review - to accelerate delivery
The Expertise and Skills You Bring You bring a track record of significant, quantified delivery (cost, cycle time, productivity) leading engineering teams through complex, multi-year modernization programs in a fast-paced, regulated environment. Ideally you have 8–12 years in software engineering leadership, including Director-level experience, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to set direction from high-level objectives and drive outcomes without detailed guidance. Domain knowledge in brokerage, financial services operations, or back-office processing is required.
Key differentiators for this role:
- Delivering production Gen AI - LLM and agentic AI solutions with guardrails, evaluation, and governance
- Hands-on BPMN workflow orchestration and process automation at enterprise scale (e.g., Camunda/FluxNova)
- Container-based application architecture and platform interoperability - context sharing, event broadcasting, and workflow integration across workstation applications
- Building reusable platforms, shared components, or SDKs adopted by multiple teams through a contribution model
You also bring a solid grasp of software architecture, distributed systems, and event-driven integration, CI/CD and DevOps experience, and a proven ability to modernize legacy technology stacks while maintaining system stability and operational continuity. Familiarity with Interop.io/FDC3, Angular, Java/Spring Boot, brokerage back-office systems, and regulatory frameworks such as FINRA, SEC Rule 15c3, or SOX is preferred. Series 99 is a nice-to-have.
The Team We are the OpsWorX team within Brokerage Record Keeping Technology (BRT). We build the operations workstation platform and workflow automation capabilities used across multiple Fidelity Business Units operations teams, helping our partners serve clients with speed, accuracy, and control.
