HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT
The Manufacturing Engineering Technician serves as a primarily desk-based engineering coordinator and dependable day-to-day backup to the Manufacturing Engineering team, with regular visits to the production floor. This role drives engineering change orders (ECOs/ECNs), manufacturing work instructions, deviation records, and cross-functional action items from initiation through documented closure. The successful candidate is proactive, team-driven, highly organized, responsive to production needs, and comfortable stepping in to support routine manufacturing engineering activities when engineers are occupied or unavailable. Engineering judgment, technical dispositions, and final approvals remain with authorized personnel.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Engineering Change Management | 30%
- Prepare, route, track, and coordinate ECO/ECN packages, including change descriptions, affected part numbers, revision levels, attachments, approval status, effective dates, and closure evidence.
- Coordinate approved change implementation with Manufacturing Engineering, Document Control, Quality, Production, Planning, Purchasing, Inventory, and other stakeholders.
- Validate completeness and consistency of drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), routings, work instructions, and ERP/PLM records against approved change requirements; escalate discrepancies.
- Track impact assessments for inventory, work-in-process (WIP), open orders, tooling, fixtures, training, and production cut-in; follow up on assigned actions until closure.
- Maintain an ECO dashboard showing owner, priority, aging, blockers, due date, and implementation status; communicate overdue items and risks.
Manufacturing Documentation & Work Instructions | 35%
- Draft, revise, format, and maintain manufacturing work instructions (WIs), Operating procedures (OMSs), visual aids, checklists, process flow documents, and controlled forms with engineering input.
- Collect photographs, process steps, tools, materials, safety and quality checkpoints, and inspection requirements from the manufacturing floor; verify drafts with process owners.
- Coordinate document review, approval, release, revision history, obsolescence, and point-of-use availability through established document-control procedures.
- Help ensure released WIs align with current approved drawings, BOMs, routings, and process requirements; support training records and document-readiness audits.
Manufacturing Engineering Backup & Production-Floor Support | 20%
- Assist engineers with manufacturing deviation/temporary change requests by collecting facts, part/lot/serial details, affected quantities, supporting documents, and proposed duration for review.
- Track deviation approvals, expiration dates, affected WIP, implementation instructions, and closure; do not independently approve use-as-is, rework, or other technical dispositions.
- Serve as the first point of coordination for routine floor requests, including unclear work instructions, missing documents, revision mismatches, assembly sequence questions, tooling/fixture concerns, and basic process issues; collect facts, assist within approved instructions, and escalate technical decisions to the responsible engineer.
- Provide day-to-day backup for Manufacturing Engineers by triaging engineering support requests, coordinating production follow-up, preparing build documentation, collecting data and photos on the floor, and supporting first-articles, pilot, NPI, and product-transfer builds.
Engineering Action Tracking & Team Coordination | 15%
- Maintain action-item logs, engineering support requests, open-issue lists, and documentation backlog with owners, priorities tool management, and due dates.
- Gather basic production data and support 6S, standard work, visual management, error-proofing, and corrective-action documentation under engineering direction.
- Actively participate in cross-functional meetings, share concise updates, volunteer support when priorities shift, follow up with stakeholders, and drive assigned team commitments to closure without repeated reminders.
- Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.
- Achievement of objectives must include an over-riding commitment to quality that must permeate the areas of responsibility.
- Enable and Drive Change in the Organization.
Not a comprehensive list of duties. Duties may change without notice at management’s sole discretion
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Associate or bachelor’s degree or technical certificate in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Industrial Engineering Technology, or related discipline preferred; equivalent relevant manufacturing experience considered.
- 2–4 years of experience in manufacturing engineering support, production technical support, engineering documentation, document control, or change coordination.
- Experience in creating or updating work instructions and coordinating engineering changes in a controlled manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Semiconductor equipment, precision manufacturing, electromechanical assembly, ISO 9001, and ERP/PLM/MES’s experience are pluses, not mandatory.
Must be able to work on-site and comply with applicable manufacturing safety and quality procedures.
