Original job description

Senior AI & Full-Stack Product Engineer – Talent Technology

About the Role Furniture.com is building an internally developed, AI-enabled recruiting platform - and we’re looking for a hands-on engineer to help take it from an early working product to a scalable enterprise application. Initially supporting corporate recruiting for Rooms To Go and Furniture.com, this platform will combine core applicant tracking functionality with AI-powered search, automation, workflows, and decision support.

This is a unique opportunity to help build a product from the ground up. You’ll work directly with Talent Acquisition, HR, and internal AI/technology partners to understand business needs, shape the product roadmap, and turn ideas into technology people actually want to use.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the continued development of our internal recruiting platform, evolving an existing prototype into a secure, reliable, production-ready application.
  • Design and develop full-stack functionality across the user interface, backend, databases, APIs, and integrations.
  • Build AI-powered capabilities using Claude and other leading LLMs, including intelligent candidate search, matching, workflow automation, communication, and recruiter productivity tools.
  • Develop AI agents, prompts, structured workflows, and human-in-the-loop solutions for real-world recruiting use cases.
  • Partner directly with recruiters and HR leaders to translate business problems into practical technology solutions.
  • Rapidly prototype new ideas, gather user feedback, and iterate.
  • Integrate the platform with HR systems, job boards, background screening, email/calendar, and other third-party applications.
  • Build with enterprise requirements in mind, including security, candidate-data privacy, role-based permissions, auditability, reliability, and scalability.
  • Help establish the technical architecture, development standards, testing, documentation, and long-term roadmap for the platform.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated full-stack application development.
  • Experience taking applications from prototype or early-stage development into production.
  • Hands-on experience building applications using generative AI/LLMs such as Claude/Anthropic, OpenAI, or comparable platforms.
  • Strong experience building and consuming APIs and integrating third-party systems.
  • Experience with modern cloud-based application architecture, databases, authentication, security, testing, and deployment.
  • Strong product mindset - you think about the user and business problem, not just the code.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and make progress when requirements are still evolving.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with non-technical business partners.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Technical Skills & Stack We care more about strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn than experience with one exact technology. Relevant experience may include:

  • Languages & Frameworks: TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, React, Next.js, Node.js or comparable modern frameworks
  • AI/LLMs: Anthropic Claude API, OpenAI API, prompt engineering, tool/function calling, structured outputs, agentic workflows and LLM evaluation
  • AI Search & Data: RAG, embeddings, semantic/vector search and retrieval techniques
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, SQL and/or modern NoSQL databases
  • APIs & Integrations: REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth and third-party system integrations
  • Cloud & DevOps: AWS, Azure or GCP; Git/GitHub; CI/CD; containers and modern deployment practices
  • Enterprise Applications: Authentication, role-based access controls, data security, logging, monitoring and audit trails. Experience with recruiting or HR technology - including ATS, CRM or HRIS platforms such as Phenom, Avature, Greenhouse, Workday or iCIMS - is a plus, but not required.

Who Will Thrive in This Role You are a builder who enjoys taking an idea and turning it into a working product. You are comfortable experimenting with emerging AI technology, but you also understand what it takes to build reliable enterprise software. You don't need every requirement perfectly defined before getting started. You ask good questions, solve problems, move quickly, and take ownership. Most importantly, you're excited by the opportunity to help determine what a modern, AI-enabled recruiting platform should look like - and then build it.
