ABOUT FATHOM ROBOTICS
Fathom Robotics provides operations, maintenance, training, and applied engineering services for uncrewed maritime systems supporting U.S. Government and commercial defense programs. We have multiple active projects across a variety of government and commercial clients and are actively fielding systems in operational environments.
ROLE OVERVIEW
Fathom Robotics is hiring a Maritime Operations Planner for an ongoing role planning and coordinating multiple complex maritime operations. The work spans RDT&E timelines, logistics, manned and unmanned systems operations, and payload integrations. The planner is the connecting point between engineering, logistics, field teams, and the government customer, and makes sure each group works from the same plan and the same status. We are looking for an experienced operational planner who has run demanding work in a staff, test range, or field setting, such as special operations or another high-tempo unit, and who needs little direction to keep a changing program organized. LOCATION: Point Mugu, CA (On-Site, Naval Base Ventura County / Point Mugu Sea Range) WORK TYPE: Full-Time CLEARANCE: US Person Required | SECRET clearance not required at hire; must be eligible and willing to start the SECRET clearance process after hire
PROGRAM CONDITIONS
Work is based on site at Naval Base Ventura County / Point Mugu Sea Range, with regular travel for planning conferences, rehearsals, and operations. Schedules shift with weather, range availability, and customer priorities, and some events involve time on vessels. Crunch periods before rehearsals and during execution windows require extended hours, including early mornings and occasional weekends.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the backward-planning schedule for each operation, working from its execution date to sequence rehearsals, logistics, equipment arrival, payload integration, and testing
- Build and maintain RDT&E test and event timelines, and deconflict range time, vessels, personnel, and equipment across concurrent efforts
- Plan manned and unmanned systems operations, including crewing, platform availability, launch and recovery, and range scheduling
- Coordinate equipment, logistics, payload integration, and integration testing timelines across engineering, operations, and test teams, including staging, transport, and arrival of government and contractor-furnished equipment
- Serve as the planning point of contact across multiple organizations, including the government customer, subcontractors, and test range staff
- Plan and execute rehearsals, including scheduling and role assignment, and lead after-action reviews that feed the next plan
- Turn customer and leadership direction into specific tasking with a named owner and a due date
- Run the operational battle rhythm, including daily synchronization meetings and execution briefs, and maintain a named-owner action item tracker that drives open items to closure
- Support operational risk assessments, range safety coordination, and contingency planning for each operation
- Produce and brief planning products (schedules, timelines, orders, and status updates) to leadership and government stakeholders
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience in programmatic or technical support of research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) of complex systems, including planning operations with multiple dependencies and organizations
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience managing several operations or programs at once with shared resources
- Demonstrated experience building a schedule backward from a fixed execution date
- Experience running or supporting recurring synchronization meetings and update briefs
- Experience coordinating logistics and equipment staging across multiple parties
- Strong cross-organizational coordination skills, including driving action across teams you don't directly manage
- Organized, resourceful, and self-directed, able to work with minimal oversight
- Strong written and verbal communication
- US Person status required (defense program context)
- Must be able to pass a background check and be eligible and willing to start the SECRET clearance process after hire (an active clearance is not required to be hired)
PREFERRED BACKGROUNDS
- Experience planning complex maritime military operations, such as MEU Logistics Officer, Future Operations/Plans, or a similar staff planning role
- Field operations experience with manned and uncrewed or autonomous maritime systems
- Experience with RDT&E test planning, payload integration, or technical rehearsal planning
- Experience coordinating with DoD test ranges
- Familiarity with IDIQ contracts and task order execution
- Completion of a military planning course, such as JPME or the Maritime Operational Planners Course
- PMP or similar project/program management credential
- Maritime or naval logistics experience
