Job Title: Teacher’s Assistant Organization: Exploration Elementary Charter School for Science and Technology Reports To: Director of Academics Duration: 10-Month Position
Position Summary The Teacher’s Assistant supports teachers in providing a positive, inclusive, and academically focused classroom environment. The assistant collaborates closely with classroom teachers to support lesson implementation, small-group instruction, and individualized student support. This role is essential in promoting Exploration’s mission by reinforcing core academic, behavioral, and social-emotional practices, with a strong emphasis on inquiry, innovation, and student achievement.
Essential Job Responsibilities Supports classroom teachers in the preparation, organization, and delivery of instructional materials and learning activities Works with individuals and small groups of students to reinforce academic content, particularly in literacy, math, and science Assists with implementing accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs or 504 Plans under the supervision of the classroom teacher Provides classroom coverage as needed and maintains a productive, respectful learning environment in the teacher’s absence Supports classroom routines, behavior expectations, and procedures to maintain a safe and structured environment Assists in the supervision of students during transitions, lunch, recess, specials, and dismissal Encourages student engagement and participation through positive reinforcement and developmentally appropriate strategies Helps with the organization and preparation of classroom materials, manipulatives, and technology Supports implementation of school-wide instructional programs, STEM activities, and classroom projects Participates in classroom and school-based data collection and documentation under teacher guidance Attends family events, school activities, and professional development opportunities as requested Participates in weekly grade-level team meetings and other collaborative planning sessions as appropriate Demonstrates professionalism in communication with students, staff, and families Uses Google Workspace to access schedules, instructional materials, and staff communication Serves as a positive role model for students by demonstrating reliability, initiative, and enthusiasm for learning
Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic understanding of child development and instructional practices Ability to follow teacher direction and provide consistent student support Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team Patience, adaptability, and a growth mindset Familiarity with technology used in elementary classrooms (Chromebooks, Google Workspace, educational apps) Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive practices
Qualifications Profile Fingerprint clearance from NYS Department of Education High school diploma or equivalent required NYS Teaching Assistant Certification or willingness to obtain within required time frame Prior experience working with elementary-aged children in a school setting preferred
Additional Details The hiring process for this position will require a fingerprinted background check through the New York State TEACH System.
