Original job description
Job Summary Department of Geosciences, East Tennessee State University The Department of Geosciences at East Tennessee State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in structural geology, and/or sedimentary geology, stratigraphy, and GIS-based field mapping. We seek a colleague who will strengthen our undergraduate and graduate programs through high-quality teaching, student mentoring, and an active research program. Teaching responsibilities will support the B.S. in Geosciences (especially the Geology & Environment and Geospatial concentrations) and the M.S. program and may include Structural Geology, Sedimentation-Stratigraphy, Field Mapping, Geologic Evolution of North America. Teaching includes introductory geoscience courses, and other offerings aligned with the candidate’s expertise. The successful candidate will mentor undergraduate and graduate students, establish an externally fundable research program that involves students, contribute to curriculum development and departmental service, and collaborate with faculty across paleontology, geospatial science, environmental geology, hydrology, and Appalachian regional geology. The southern Appalachians provide a world-class natural laboratory of complex structural and sedimentary systems, offering exceptional opportunities for research on deformation, basin evolution, landscape development, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction, enhanced by proximity to the Gray Fossil Site. The Department of Geosciences is strong and growing, with a collaborative faculty and a commitment to hands-on, field-based education. ETSU is thriving at a time when many universities face significant challenges, and start-up support is available to enhance laboratory facilities.
