Original job description

Description The EHS Coordinator is the hands-on, on-the-floor support for EPC Power's EHS program at their assigned site. This role runs the day-to-day work that keeps the program alive: inspections, emergency equipment, training logistics, recordkeeping, and corrective action follow-up. The Coordinator works closely with production, warehouse, and facilities leaders in a high-voltage power electronics manufacturing environment, and is a visible, approachable safety resource for employees on every shift.

Requirements

Inspections and hazard recognition

  • Conduct scheduled site inspections (production floor, warehouse, docks, exterior yards, chemical storage) and document findings in EHS Insight.
  • Assign findings to area owners, track corrective actions to closure, and escalate overdue items to the EHS Specialist or Manager.
  • Support the Hazard Recognition Program by reviewing employee-submitted hazard reports and coaching employees on reporting.
  • Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for new tasks, equipment, and process changes.

Emergency preparedness

  • Own monthly inspections and readiness of emergency equipment: fire extinguishers, AEDs, eyewash and safety showers, first aid kits, and spill kits.
  • Coordinate evacuation and severe weather drills, maintain emergency contact lists, and support the site Emergency Response Team.
  • Track inspection due dates and arrange vendor service for extinguishers, sprinklers, and other life-safety equipment.

Training support

  • Schedule, assign, and track EHS training in EHS Insight, including new-hire orientation and annual refreshers.
  • Deliver basic training and toolbox talks (e.g., hazard communication, PPE, emergency action).
  • Maintain training records and send completion reports to supervisors.

Incident management

  • Respond to injuries and incidents on site, provide first aid within training, and secure the scene.
  • Gather initial statements, photos, and facts, and enter incident reports in EHS Insight within required timeframes.
  • Support root cause investigations and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Assist with OSHA 300/300A/301 recordkeeping under the direction of the EHS Specialist or Manager.

Electrical and high-voltage safety support

  • Verify lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices, lock and tag inventory, and authorized employee lists.
  • Inspect arc-flash PPE, voltage-rated gloves, and test equipment for condition and testing dates.
  • Support periodic LOTO procedure audits and energized work permit recordkeeping.

Environmental compliance

  • Perform weekly hazardous and universal waste area inspections and maintain container labeling and accumulation dates.
  • Maintain the site SDS library and chemical inventory.
  • Collect data for environmental reporting (waste manifests, stormwater, recycling metrics) and support ISO 14001 records.

Programs, records, and audits

  • Maintain EHS records and documentation in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Support internal audits, customer audits, and ISO surveillance audits by gathering evidence and records.
  • Help manage contractor safety orientation and check-in on site.
  • Track and report site EHS metrics (leading and lagging indicators) on a weekly and monthly basis.

Culture and engagement

  • Be a visible presence on the floor, primarily on 1st shift with periodic visits to other shifts, coaching employees and supervisors on safe work practices.
  • Support the site safety committee by preparing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking action items.
  • Perform other EHS duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Fire Science, or a related field, or high school diploma/GED plus 1-3 years of relevant EHS experience.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA general industry standards (29 CFR 1910), including LOTO, hazard communication, PPE, powered industrial trucks, and walking-working surfaces.
  • Basic understanding of EPA hazardous and universal waste requirements.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry card, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and comfort learning EHS software platforms.
  • Strong organization and follow-through; able to manage many open items and deadlines at once.
  • Clear verbal and written communication, with the confidence to coach employees and supervisors on the floor.
  • Able to occasionally adjust hours to support other shifts, drills, and incident response.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in electrical, electronics, or power equipment manufacturing, including high-voltage testing areas.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements and arc-flash programs.
  • Experience supporting an ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management system.
  • Hands-on experience with an EHS software platform (EHS Insight preferred).
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), or Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) credential, or progress toward one.
  • RCRA hazardous waste and DOT hazmat training.
  • Forklift trainer certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Physical Demands and Work Environment This role spends most of the shift on the manufacturing floor, warehouse, and exterior yards, with the rest at a desk.

  • Walk and stand for extended periods across large facilities; climb stairs and ladders for inspections.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs (e.g., fire extinguishers, spill kits, training materials).
  • Bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to inspect equipment and storage areas.
  • Work around energized electrical equipment, high-voltage test areas, forklifts, overhead cranes, and industrial chemicals.
  • Exposure to manufacturing noise, outdoor weather, and varying temperatures.
  • Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, safety-toe footwear, hearing protection, and arc-rated clothing where required.
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents on short notice, including occasional after-hours calls.
