Original job description

Internship Summary:

The Grant Writing Intern works directly with the Global Projects Manager on the Advancement Team. This role blends writing and relationship-building: approximately half of the intern’s time is spent developing fundraising materials, while the other half is spent collaborating with missionaries and Major Gifts Officers. Early in the internship, the intern will join meetings to identify foundations to pursue, learn about field projects, and plan the writing pieces needed to support donor and foundation engagement. Assignments may include proposals, letters of inquiry, program logic models, project descriptions, and other grant-related materials. This is a fundraising role - not a journalism or general communications position. If you enjoy both writing and connecting with people, then this role is for you!

*Applicants will be asked to upload two to three writing samples with their application. Samples may include class papers, online articles, short stories, or other work that demonstrates strong writing and the ability to adapt to different styles.

Responsibilities:

The Grant Writing Intern will:

  • Research new foundations.
  • Connect with missionaries and gather information about field projects to create project descriptions for proposals and other essential writing pieces.
  • Collaborate with our Major Gifts Officers to create writing pieces that will help develop relationships with foundations and donors.
  • Write program logic models, proposals, and other essential writing pieces used by the Advancement Team.

Qualifications:

  • You’re a Skilled, Adaptable Writer: Understands that grant writing is a form of fundraising and can adjust language, structure, tone, and word choice to fit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, project descriptions, and other fundraising formats.
  • Your Studies Include Significant Writing: English, writing, and related majors are strongly preferred; nonprofit management is also a strong fit. Applicants in journalism or other writing-intensive majors are welcome if they can demonstrate an ability to shift from journalistic or general communications writing to donor-focused grant writing.
  • You Have a Personal Relationship with Christ: Spiritual maturity and desire to deepen your relationship with God.
  • You’re Excited to Serve with Pioneers: Willing to reflect Pioneers Statement of Faith and Core Values.
  • You Love People: Genuinely enjoys building new relationships and connecting with others.
  • You’re a Go Getter: Ability to start new projects, take charge and make decisions.
  • You’re Well Balanced: Great at multi-tasking and organizing different tasks at once.
  • You Love to Learn: Teachable and wanting to grow professionally and personally.
  • You Have a Strong Sense of Professionalism: Strong administrative skills and attention to details. Handles confidential information well.
  • You Celebrate Differences: A humble heart to learn and relate to people in an ethnically diverse world.
