Original job description
Description Enovation Controls is a turnkey technology company that solves complex problems and delivers innovative electronic control and display solutions across diverse markets. People who find their place here tend to stay. Many of our team members have decades of tenure, evidence of a culture where people feel valued and want to build a career.
We’re proud to be recognized by Great Place to Work as one of the Best Workplaces in Manufacturing & Production for seven consecutive years, as well as by Mployer Advisor for our Top U.S. Benefits. This recognition comes directly from employee feedback, not marketing, and reflects a workplace where people feel trusted, supported, and empowered. We live our core values every day in a collaborative, high-performance environment that balances complex technical work with real camaraderie, accessible leadership, and traditions that bring teams together.
Description The SVE Electrical Engineer, within the Engineering department, primarily leads Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives for production electronics while providing secondary support for sustaining engineering activities. This role partners with New Product Development during product launch and electrical design-ownership handoff, then assumes ongoing responsibility for maintaining assigned products throughout production. The engineer works cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Product Management to identify and implement improvements that optimize cost, manufacturability, electrical performance, component availability, product quality, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- VAVE and Cost Reduction: Identify, validate, and implement lower-cost circuits, components, PCB assemblies, manufacturing approaches, and sourcing alternatives without sacrificing performance or reliability.
- Electrical Design Ownership: Assume responsibility for assigned electrical designs after launch and maintain schematics, PCB records, specifications, BOMs, and product configuration.
- NPI and Design Handoff: Partner with New Product Development on launch readiness, design intent, component selections, validation history, and ownership transfer.
- Electrical Design and Components: Modify analog/digital circuits, schematics, PCBs, interfaces, and component selections, considering availability, lifecycle, cost, and derating.
- Validation and Manufacturing: Support prototypes, bench testing, DFM/DFT, electrical/EMC performance evaluation, and formal engineering changes.
- Sustaining and Root Cause: Resolve obsolescence, supplier substitutions, factory failures, field issues, and quality problems through investigation and corrective action.
- Cross-Functional Execution: Develop VAVE business cases and coordinate technical changes with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Product Management, and suppliers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of electrical/electronic product-design and development experience; VAVE and sustaining engineering experience preferred.
- Electronic product-design experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools.
- Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, troubleshooting techniques, component selection, and PCB fabrication and assembly processes.
- Experience with test instruments, electrical validation, DFM/DFT, and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to execute VAVE changes, qualify alternate components, and control product documentation and engineering changes.
- Strong ownership, project prioritization, communication, and cross-functional problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Familiarity with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB design.
- Experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for schematics, BOMs, configuration, and engineering changes.
- Knowledge of ruggedized electronics, embedded controllers, displays, power, CAN/J1939, Ethernet, and EMC/EMI.
- Background in environmental testing, component obsolescence, alternate-source qualification, or high-volume manufacturing processes.
Why Enovation Controls We tackle complex work with high expectations and a learning mindset. Our culture is fun and rewarding, and we consistently rank among the best places to work in manufacturing. We back that culture with solid benefits: a strong 401(k) match, cost-effective healthcare options that meaningfully reduce out-of-pocket costs, wellness support, and profit-sharing that rewards collective success.
