Emancipet is Hiring a Data Analyst

The Organization: Who is Emancipet?

More than a career, it’s a movement. Emancipet, the leading non-profit veterinary care provider in the United States, is on a mission to make veterinary care affordable and accessible for everyone. For the past 25 years, we’ve been building a national network of low-cost veterinary clinics that provide low-cost, high-quality, and compassionate care in underserved communities. Our clinics have the power to transform communities into places where no one has to forego veterinary care for their pets because the cost is out of reach. You are invited to join the movement!

We are dedicated to building and supporting a diverse workforce. Emancipet is committed to applying a social justice lens to our work by evaluating and ensuring that our systems, policies, practices, language, and programs create equitable access, opportunities, engagement, and inclusivity for all people, and people from historically marginalized groups in particular. We strive to live by our values and be an organization where the culture created by our diverse staff and board advances our mission and vision, and supports organizational excellence and sustainability.

The Team: Who is Research, Data, and Analytics?

It’s not just what we do, but how we do it that makes the difference. Emancipet’s Research, Data, and Analytics (RDA) team turns the information our clinics and shared services teams capture every day into data people can trust and use. We partner closely with our Information Technology team so that data stays accurate and usable as our systems change and we grow.

We support Emancipet in achieving its three bottom lines - Quality Medicine, Transformative Service, and Financial Sustainability - by providing timely, approachable access to data and insights. That means dashboards clinic leaders can rely on, analysis that shapes strategic decisions, and evaluation grounded in equity.

The Data Analyst reports to the Chief Finance and Data Officer and works across departments to answer the questions that help us serve more families and pets.

The Opportunity: Tell me more about the Data Analyst position

At Emancipet, we serve over 100,000 families a year. Behind every decision about where to open a clinic, how to match appointment capacity to client demand, or whether we’re reaching the families who need us most is a question that data can help answer. We are seeking a Data Analyst who wants their work to be used, not just admired.

This is a role for a curious, careful analyst who’s comfortable owning the work from start to finish. You’ll build and maintain the datasets, reports, and dashboards that keep our operations running, and you’ll help us understand what’s behind the numbers - spotting trends, measuring whether decisions paid off, and sharing what you find in a way non-technical colleagues can act on. When someone comes to you with a request, you’ll take the time to understand what they’re trying to do, so you can give them what they need, not just what they asked for.

You’ll thrive here if you like both the puzzle and the people. You know your way around SQL and Power BI, you double-check your joins, and people leave a conversation with you understanding their data a little better than before. You care about data integrity and equity because you know the data represents real families and their pets.

In this position, you will be responsible for the following:

Reporting, Dashboards & Data Delivery (50%)

  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot the datasets, reports, and dashboards that support day-to-day operations and strategic projects, including external reporting for grants and municipal partners.
  • Query, extract, join, validate, convert, and summarize data from large datasets (100k+ rows).
  • Work with requesters to understand what they need, and deliver accurate, finished work on time.
  • Manage our client NPS surveys so results flow reliably into our reporting.

Analysis & Insights (20%)

  • Help answer questions from teams across the organization, from quick trend checks in our internal data to figuring out whether a change made a difference.
  • Contribute to larger analyses that bring in outside sources, like public data on the communities we serve, to help us better understand our operations, markets, and clients.
  • Share what you find with the people who need it, and be ready to talk through what the data is telling us.

Data Integrity & Measurement (20%)

  • Uphold and help improve data collection processes that protect data integrity and quality, meet organizational needs, and follow the principles of equitable evaluation.
  • Monitor the data flowing between our core systems, and troubleshoot issues when they come up, with support from our ETL specialist.
  • Work cross-functionally to help define the metrics and KPIs we use for timely, regular monitoring.
  • Help keep our documentation current when systems and processes change.

Collaboration & Communication (10%)

  • Be a dependable partner to clinic and shared services teams, helping build trust in our team and the data we provide.
  • Keep people informed about timelines, progress, and any data issues that affect their work.
  • Support the team in meeting and exceeding individual and team goals.

What You Bring (and We Know No One Has It All!)

  • Mission-driven and aligned with Emancipet’s values of compassionate service, excellence, teaching & learning, and optimism.
  • Strong communication and a service mindset: you’re responsive, approachable, and able to explain technical problems to people who aren’t data people.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in an analytical role.
  • Skills in SQL, Excel (including Power Query), and Power BI (including DAX), and a knack for choosing the right visual for the audience.
  • Foundational statistics and working knowledge of R or Python, with the curiosity to keep building your analytical toolkit.
  • Strong fundamentals in data cleaning, data integrity, and data quality, including handling private or sensitive data.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting data issues, including ETL processes or data pipelines, and figuring things out when the answer isn’t obvious.

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Mapping tools like ArcGIS
  • Qualitative data, including survey tools like Forsta or Qualtrics and analysis tools like NVivo
  • Equitable evaluation practices
  • Working in a non-profit

You Don’t Have to Check Every Box! We recognize that candidates bring diverse skills and experiences, and you may be a great fit even if you don’t check every box. If you’re passionate about our mission and confident in your ability to succeed in this role, we encourage you to apply.
