Position Summary

Element Solutions is looking for an experienced and problem solving Integration Engineer. The Integration Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining integrations between applications, platforms, and data systems. This role focuses on RESTful API integration, data exchange, and system interoperability to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient communication between systems.

Working collaboratively with software developers, data engineers, architects, and project stakeholders, the Integration Engineer translates technical and business requirements into effective integration solutions. The position requires hands-on experience with REST APIs, API testing, data formats, authentication methods, and troubleshooting integration issues. The ideal candidate can independently develop and support routine integrations, identify and resolve technical issues, and contribute to the reliability, scalability, and security of connected systems.

Key Responsibilities

API Development and Integration

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain integrations between applications, services, databases, and external systems using RESTful APIs.

• Develop and configure API requests, endpoints, and integration workflows to support reliable data exchange between systems.

• Implement data mapping, transformation, validation, and serialization processes to ensure compatibility between integrated platforms.

• Work with JSON, XML, and other structured data formats to support data exchange and interoperability.

• Integrate with internal and third-party APIs while adhering to established technical standards and interface specifications.

• Support API versioning, backward compatibility, and integration changes as systems and requirements evolve.

• Collaborate with development teams to resolve interface dependencies and ensure successful integration across application environments.

Integration Testing and Troubleshooting

• Develop and execute integration tests to validate API functionality, data accuracy, response handling, and system interoperability.

• Use API testing tools such as Postman or comparable tools to validate requests, responses, status codes, and error handling.

• Troubleshoot API connectivity issues, authentication failures, data discrepancies, performance issues, and integration errors.

• Implement appropriate logging, monitoring, retry mechanisms, and exception handling to improve integration reliability.

• Document defects, investigate root causes, and coordinate with technical teams to implement corrective actions.

• Support integration testing, user acceptance testing, and production deployment activities.

Security and Performance

• Implement API authentication and authorization mechanisms, such as OAuth 2.0, API keys, and token-based authentication, as appropriate to the integration.

• Follow established security practices for data transmission, credential management, access controls, and sensitive information handling.

• Apply appropriate input validation, error handling, and secure coding practices to protect integrated systems.

• Monitor integration performance and identify opportunities to improve response times, reliability, and scalability.

• Support compliance with organizational, customer, and applicable regulatory requirements for data privacy and security.

Documentation and Collaboration

• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including API specifications, integration workflows, data mappings, configuration details, and troubleshooting procedures.

• Collaborate with software developers, data engineers, QA personnel, architects, and business stakeholders to define integration requirements.

• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, integration planning, and deployment activities.

• Support the maintenance and enhancement of existing integrations as business and technical requirements change.

• Identify opportunities to automate integration processes and improve development, testing, and deployment practices.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or Associates degree plus two years' experience.

• At least 3 years of professional experience in systems integration, API development, application development, or a related technical field.

• At least 3 years of hands-on experience developing, implementing, or supporting RESTful API integrations.

• Strong understanding of REST principles, HTTP methods, status codes, request and response structures, and API design concepts.

• Experience working with JSON and other structured data formats, including XML where applicable.

• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or C#.

• Experience testing and troubleshooting APIs using Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI tools, or comparable technologies.

• Understanding of API authentication and authorization methods, including OAuth 2.0, API keys, or token-based authentication.

• Experience diagnosing integration failures, validating data exchanges, and resolving technical issues across connected systems.

• Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage assigned integration tasks independently while collaborating effectively with technical teams.

• Must live in the Continental US.

• Be either a US citizen or Permanent Resident due to the work we do.

• Depending on agency requirements, you may need to possess or obtain a Public Trust designation or security clearance. Regardless of the specific requirement, all positions require the successful completion of a background check, background investigation, and the standard onboarding process.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in government contracting, healthcare (CMS (Center of Medicare & Medicaid) or in the health industry.

• Experience with API gateways, integration platforms, middleware, or enterprise service integration tools.

• Familiarity with OpenAPI specifications and API documentation standards.

• Experience integrating cloud-based applications and services.

• Familiarity with message queues, event-driven architectures, or asynchronous communication patterns.

• Experience with Git, automated testing, and CI/CD practices.

• Understanding of database concepts, SQL, and data transformation techniques.

• Experience working in healthcare IT, government contracting, or other environments with defined security and interoperability requirements.

• Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards, such as HL7 FHIR, if applicable to the project.
