Original job description

About Dusty Robotics, Inc. Dusty Robotics develops robot-powered tools for the modern construction workforce.

While today's buildings are built predominantly with manual labor, Dusty envisions a future in which skilled labor makes use of robotic automation to make the work safer, more efficient, and more precise. We want to create a future in which construction workers don't need to retire early because their bodies give out. In Dusty's future, the buildings we live and work in are built by teams of creative and problem-solving construction crews who direct robots to do the dull, dirty, and dangerous work.

What We're Building Dusty bridges the gap between the digital world of building design and the skilled labor operating in the field, accelerating the digital transformation of the construction industry. The centerpiece of our strategy is the FieldPrinter: a mobile printer-on-wheels that prints building floorplans full-size on the concrete floor of a construction site. When errors in layout can cause multi-million dollar mistakes, our product ensures that all field crews are building off of a single source of truth derived from the digital model.

About the role We are looking for a highly motivated Robotics Technician to support the assembly, testing, and service of our FieldPrinter robots and laser trackers. The role covers mechanical assembly and repair, electrical debugging, and Ethernet and network troubleshooting, and requires comfort working from the command line. The ideal candidate is self-directed, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with limited documentation. You will work closely with Engineering, Field Operations, and our manufacturing partner on production builds, prototype builds, repairs, and process improvements. Assemble, test, diagnose, and repair FieldPrinter robots, laser trackers, tripods, and accessories, from sub-assemblies to final assemblies

What you'll do

  • Run service and final QC procedures in ION, record results, and open issues for any failure you find
  • Do the independent second check in final QC on both manufactured and serviced units
  • Prepare equipment for swaps and customer shipments, and keep accurate records of serial numbers and equipment status
  • Follow work instructions and service travelers, and flag or update them when they're wrong
  • Help write and maintain SOPs and work instructions for service, test, and QC
  • Work with Engineering to root-cause repeat failures, and support prototype builds and test fixtures when needed
  • Look after the shop's tools, test equipment, and spares inventory, and follow safety procedures

Who you are

  • 3+ years of technician work on electro-mechanical assemblies, or an associate degree in engineering or a related field
  • Experience with robotics, mechatronics, or similar electro-mechanical products
  • Comfortable with hand and power tools, torque wrenches, multimeters, and soldering
  • Can debug electrical faults with a multimeter, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Comfortable using the command line (for example, a Linux terminal) to run diagnostics, check connections, and read logs
  • Can read drawings, BOMs, and work instructions, and follow them exactly
  • Comfortable running test software, entering data in an MES or ticketing system, and writing clear notes
  • Works to a schedule with little supervision and raises blockers early
  • Explains problems clearly to engineers in writing and in person

Nice to have

  • Experience with an MES such as ION, or with Salesforce service cases
  • Experience with laser trackers, metrology, or survey equipment
  • Experience with lean or basic quality methods: SPC, root cause analysis, ISO 9001
  • Experience training or mentoring other technicians on procedures, tools, and troubleshooting
  • Experience building and repairing cable harnesses: cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering
  • Experience troubleshooting Ethernet and network issues: cabling, connectors, switches, and IP connectivity

Requirements

  • Can lift 50 lb
  • Full time, on-site at Dusty Robotics in Mountain View, CA
