Original job description

Are you ready to make an impact at DTCC?

Do you want to work on innovative projects, collaborate with a dynamic and supportive team, and receive investment in your professional development? At DTCC, we are at the forefront of innovation in the financial markets. We are committed to helping our employees grow and succeed. We believe that you have the skills and drive to make a real impact. We foster a thriving internal community and are committed to creating a workplace that looks like the world that we serve.

The Information Technology group delivers secure, reliable technology solutions that enable DTCC to be the trusted infrastructure of the global capital markets. The team delivers high-quality information through activities that include development of essential, building infrastructure capabilities to meet client needs and implementing data standards and governance.

Pay and Benefits:

Competitive compensation, including base pay and annual incentive
Comprehensive health and life insurance and well-being benefits, based on location
Pension / Retirement benefits
Paid Time Off and Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
DTCC offers a flexible/hybrid model of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote (onsite Tuesdays, Wednesdays and a third day unique to each team or employee).

The impact you will have in this role:

The SDET family is responsible for creating, designing, deploying, and supporting applications, programs, and software solutions. This may include new development, maintenance, automation, enhancement, and modernization of software products used internally and externally across DTCC platforms.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you will help drive quality engineering practices across strategic initiatives and enterprise delivery streams. In this role, you will contribute to functional and automated testing, support shift-left quality practices, maintain end-to-end traceability, and validate complex workflows spanning user interfaces, APIs, databases, regulatory reporting, file-based ingestion, and cross-system integrations.

You will partner closely with Software Engineers, Product Owners, Scrum teams, and partner platforms to understand complex business and regulatory requirements, identify quality issues earlier in the software development lifecycle, and ensure comprehensive test coverage. The role includes backend and database validation, structured file and XML testing, automation, regulatory and reporting validation, and end-to-end data verification across integrated systems.

Your Primary Responsibilities:

Apply software development and testing methodologies, tools, and technologies to validate business, functional, technical, and regulatory requirements across enterprise applications and platforms.
Design, execute, and maintain manual and automated tests across the delivery lifecycle, including functional, regression, integration, system, exploratory, and automation-assisted testing.
Partner with Software Engineers and Product Owners during refinement, story grooming, and scenario walkthroughs to clarify requirements, identify ambiguities and dependencies early, and improve testability before code completion.
Perform backend and database testing, including SQL-based data validation, to verify data accuracy, completeness, business rules, transformations, and application outputs and troubleshoot data discrepancies.
Validate API, UI, database, and cross-system behavior and perform end-to-end testing across integrated enterprise applications and platforms.
Perform file-based and structured data validation, including XML and CSV processing, schema/XSD validation, field mapping, transformations, report verification, ACK/NACK handling, error validation, and simulator-driven testing.
Perform end-to-end data validation and reconciliation across source data, database records, file outputs, transformations, regulatory reports, and downstream systems to identify inconsistencies and ensure data accuracy.
Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance automated tests using Java and existing automation frameworks while identifying opportunities to expand automated coverage and reduce manual testing.
Support regulatory and control-focused testing, including validation of transaction and reporting accuracy, reporting timeliness, privacy and data masking, entitlements, auditability, portal access, and downstream impacts.
Maintain end-to-end traceability from user stories and acceptance criteria through test scenarios, test cases, automation assets, execution evidence, and defect tracking using tools such as JIRA and ALM/AQM.
Contribute to continuous testing and release readiness by integrating automated checks with CI/CD pipelines and supporting smoke, sanity, regression, defect investigation, troubleshooting, and issue triage.
Align risk and control processes into day-to-day responsibilities to monitor and mitigate risk, escalate issues appropriately, and support secure and compliant software delivery.

**NOTE: The Primary Responsibilities of this role are not limited to the details above. **

Qualifications:

Minimum of 7 years of overall related technology experience, including 4+ years of hands-on software testing, quality engineering, and test automation experience.
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.

Talent Needed for Success

Strong experience with functional testing and test design, including the ability to understand complex business, technical, and regulatory requirements and translate them into comprehensive test scenarios and coverage.
Strong hands-on test automation experience, including experience developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing automated tests using Java and established automation frameworks.
Strong experience with backend and database testing, including SQL-based data validation, data reconciliation, and troubleshooting of data discrepancies.
Hands-on experience testing XML and file-based workflows, including XML/CSV validation, schema/XSD validation, field mappings, transformations, and structured data outputs.
Experience with API, integration, UI, and cross-system testing across complex enterprise applications.
Experience validating data-intensive workflows across source data, database records, application outputs, reports, and downstream systems.
Experience with test design techniques such as equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, decision table testing, pairwise testing, and exploratory testing.
Experience with requirements traceability, test management, execution evidence, and defect lifecycle management using JIRA, ALM/AQM, or similar tools.
Experience working with source control and CI/CD technologies such as Git/Bitbucket and Jenkins.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues across application, API, file, data, database, and integration layers.
Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with Software Engineers, Product Owners, Scrum teams, and cross-functional partners.
Quality-first mindset with strong attention to detail, ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
Ability to work effectively in Agile delivery environments and adapt to evolving technologies, automation frameworks, business requirements, and priorities.
Awareness of security, privacy, risk, and regulatory expectations within enterprise software delivery.
Familiarity with AI Prompt Engineering and AI Agents.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with automation tools and frameworks such as TestNG, Selenium, Karate, or REST Assured.
Experience testing applications using Snowflake, Oracle, or other relational/data platforms.
