The Opportunity
Ulteig is seeking an experienced people and business leader to serve as Associate Director, Practice Builder within the Power business. This role leads the operational integration, capability development, and performance of a growing portfolio serving emerging utility, EPC, and other priority Power clients.
The Associate Director translates approved Power business and market strategies into an actionable annual portfolio plan. The role leads multiple teams and designated portfolio leaders, establishes priorities and operating rhythms, allocates resources within approved plans, and holds leaders accountable for safe, high-quality, financially responsible delivery.
Working closely with the Power Market team, Power Associate Directors, and leaders across the business, this individual strengthens client relationships, converts opportunities into repeatable work, and develops scalable delivery capabilities. The role contributes analysis and recommendations to longer-term growth, investment, partnership, and market decisions led by senior Power leadership.
Rather than inheriting a fully established organization, this leader initially draws on existing Power teams to pursue and deliver work while establishing repeatable approaches, developing leaders, and building dedicated capacity as the portfolio matures. The position is accountable for turning strategy into coordinated multi-team execution, improving the employee experience, and strengthening portfolio results.
What You’ll Do
People & Multi-Team Leadership (30%)
- Lead multiple teams and designated portfolio leaders responsible for pursuing and delivering work for emerging Power clients; establish priorities, performance expectations, decision rights, and accountability for integrated portfolio results.
- Build leadership capability by coaching managers, technical leaders, project managers, and emerging leaders; strengthen succession readiness and address performance, capability, and organizational gaps.
- Maintain an annual workforce plan that anticipates capacity, skills, locations, hiring needs, and leadership requirements in alignment with the approved client pipeline and portfolio plan.
- Determine when to leverage existing Power teams, recruit talent, or establish dedicated capacity within approved workforce and investment plans.
- Establish cross-department operating rhythms that improve coordination, information flow, decision-making, accountability, knowledge sharing, and client outcomes.
- Build a high-performing and scalable organization through effective hiring, onboarding, role clarity, performance management, development, retention, and employee-experience practices.
- Lead implementation of an approved organization plan as demand, revenue, and leadership capacity mature.
Portfolio Operations & Delivery (25%)
- Translate approved Power business and market strategies into an annual portfolio operating plan with clear priorities, milestones, resource requirements, ownership, and measures of success.
- Lead portfolio-level delivery performance across multidisciplinary teams, holding designated leaders accountable for safety, quality, scope, schedule, financial performance, risk management, and client outcomes.
- Manage the approved portfolio budget and workforce plan; monitor revenue, margin, utilization, backlog, capacity, operating expenses, and investment performance, and recommend adjustments to Power leadership.
- Allocate approved resources across clients, projects, and initiatives based on commitments, business priorities, capability needs, profitability, and delivery risk.
- Resolve or escalate significant delivery, performance, quality, resource, and client issues to protect commitments and strengthen client confidence.
- Establish and improve portfolio governance, workflows, delivery standards, performance measures, and operating processes to increase consistency, predictability, and scalability.
Business Development & Client Growth (25%)
- Coordinate execution of the approved portfolio growth plan with the Power Market team, aligning priority clients, market segments, pursuits, investments, delivery capacity, and expected financial outcomes.
- Strengthen executive and senior client relationships and position Ulteig as a trusted consulting-engineering advisor and delivery partner for utilities, EPCs, and other priority Power clients.
- Partner with Market Directors, Client Team Leaders, Account Managers, and business development professionals to execute coordinated account strategies and clarify client ownership.
- Convert initial engagements into durable, diversified client portfolios with a qualified pipeline of repeat work.
- Translate recurring client needs, delivery lessons, and market trends into prioritized recommendations for service development, adjacent offerings, and portfolio capabilities.
- Improve pursuit success and commercial outcomes by guiding differentiated solutions, proposals, interviews, teaming approaches, and contract discussions within delegated authority.
- Develop business cases and recommendations for new capabilities, partnerships, client segments, and market opportunities for review and approval by senior leadership
Portfolio Integration & Capability Development (20%)
- Integrate capabilities across Power LLS and related business areas to create consistent, scalable solutions that increase client value and delivery credibility.
- Collaborate with the broader Power Associate Director group to implement approved priorities that strengthen Power performance, organizational capability, and employee experience.
- Standardize and scale workflows, delivery practices, governance, and operating rhythms across participating teams.
- Lead implementation of approved technology, automation, and AI-enabled solutions that improve delivery efficiency, quality, capacity, client outcomes, and the employee experience.
- Lead change management, adoption, training, and performance measurement for new portfolio capabilities and operating methods.
- Use portfolio, financial, delivery, employee, and client insights to identify improvement opportunities and recommend priorities to Power leadership.
- Embed continuous improvement practices that produce measurable gains in operational efficiency, delivery consistency, quality, financial performance, and client experience.
