Original job description

Location: Vineland, New Jersey Work Setting: On-Site Pay Rate: $115,000-$120,000 annually, based on qualifications and relevant experience.

About DataOne DataOne designs, develops, and operates sustainable AI Factories, bringing together energy, infrastructure, and artificial intelligence at industrial scale. With operations in the U.S. and internationally, we deliver large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for people who want to bring their experience, ideas, and perspective to meaningful projects and help shape what comes next at DataOne.

About the Job DataOne is hiring a Lead Building Automation Controls Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls at our Vineland data center. In this role, you'll serve as a primary on-site technical resource, leading complex troubleshooting, coordinating controls-related maintenance, and supporting commissioning and system improvements. You'll also provide technical guidance to junior controls engineers and technicians while working closely with Engineering, Facilities, IT, and external contractors to keep critical systems operating reliably. What You'll Do

Lead daily monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls.
Diagnose and resolve complex system alarms, equipment failures, control issues, and operational concerns involving mechanical and electrical systems.
Troubleshoot sensors, actuators, controllers, networked devices, and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, including control sequences and programming adjustments.
Perform and coordinate system inspections, functional testing, control point verification, calibration checks, and performance assessments.
Provide on-site technical leadership, prioritize controls-related work, and guide junior controls engineers and technicians.
Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with Facilities, Engineering, vendors, and service providers.
Lead controls-related field activities for equipment upgrades, commissioning, system integrations, and operational improvement projects.
Review system trends, alarms, and performance data to identify recurring issues and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, including troubleshooting records, control drawings, sequences of operation, and maintenance reports.
Collaborate with Engineering, Facilities, IT, contractors, and management to resolve technical issues and support system reliability.

What You'll Need

High school diploma or GED.
Minimum 5 years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, controls engineering, facility operations, or a related technical field.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, and building automation operations.
Hands-on experience with Direct Digital Controls (DDC), building automation software, control sequences, and system troubleshooting.
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with sensors, actuators, controllers, and associated control devices.
Ability to read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and mechanical/electrical plans.
Experience performing functional testing, control point verification, system inspections, and performance assessments.
Ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical issues, coordinate corrective actions, and provide technical guidance to other team members.

We recognize that experience and skills can come from different paths. Relevant professional, hands-on, educational, military, trade, and industry experience may all provide the skills and knowledge needed to succeed at DataOne. Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree, technical diploma, apprenticeship, or vocational training in Building Automation, HVAC, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
Experience with BAS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Trane, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Automated Logic, Distech, or Niagara Framework.
Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, including AHUs, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, and CRAC/computer room cooling equipment.
Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and IP networking fundamentals.
Experience with commissioning, controls integration, or technical leadership in data centers, critical facilities, or similar high-availability environments.

What to Expect

Full-time, on-site position in Vineland, New Jersey, with required shift coverage.
Hands-on work throughout the facility, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and equipment spaces.
Occasional after-hours support for emergencies, maintenance activities, and special projects.
Collaboration with engineering, operations, IT, contractors, and vendors in a 24/7 mission-critical environment.

Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and climb stairs or ladders while accessing equipment and facility areas. The position may require handling tools, testing equipment, and control components, with assistance when necessary. Work may involve varying temperatures, elevated noise levels, and operating mechanical and electrical equipment. Required PPE and established safety procedures must be followed.
