Original job description
Data Intelligence, LLC (DI) is seeking a Topside Systems Engineer III – Naval Combat Systems to support the development and sustainment of the U.S. Navy's Aegis Weapon System in Moorestown, NJ.
This position focuses on evaluating equipment installations, determining optimal placement, and assessing the operational, structural, electromagnetic, and system-performance impacts associated with shipboard equipment arrangements.
The ideal candidate has experience with shipboard integration, CAD-based engineering analysis, equipment placement, and the technical considerations associated with antennas, sensors, radar systems, and other combat-system components.
This position is fully on-site. The salary range is $120,000 – $140,000 annually, depending on experience. A current, active security clearance that is at least secret level (or higher) is required.
Job Responsibilities:
• Perform engineering analyses supporting the design, placement, and integration of topside and below-deck combat-system equipment.
• Evaluate proposed equipment locations and recommend placement based on system performance, physical constraints, structural considerations, accessibility, interfaces, and installation requirements.
• Assess electromagnetic interference and compatibility (EMI/EMC), radiation hazards (RADHAZ), antenna and sensor placement, field-of-view, blockage, and other integration impacts.
• Evaluate environmental exposure, safety, survivability, aviation impacts, human factors, and operational constraints associated with shipboard equipment installations.
• Develop and review 2D/3D engineering models, CAD drawings, equipment layouts, and installation designs.
• Conduct feasibility studies, evaluate integration risks, compare design alternatives, and recommend modifications to improve system performance.
• Analyze system and test data to identify integration and performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Support ship checks, installation activities, engineering test events, verification, trials, and operational assessments.
• Collaborate with systems, mechanical, electrical, software, and other engineering teams to resolve technical and interface challenges.
• Develop technical analyses, engineering reports, design documentation, and presentations supporting program decisions.
Required Skills/Experience:
• U.S. citizenship and an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance. An Interim Secret may be acceptable to start, pending confirmation.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Five or more years of relevant engineering experience involving shipboard systems, equipment design, physical arrangements, system integration, or technical analysis.
• Experience using CAD or similar design tools to develop or review 2D/3D equipment layouts, arrangements, or installation drawings.
• Demonstrated experience evaluating equipment placement and physical integration, considering structural, operational, system, interface, accessibility, and installation constraints.
• Experience performing EMI/EMC, RADHAZ, antenna or sensor placement, field-of-view, blockage, interference, or comparable shipboard engineering analyses.
• Working knowledge of systems engineering processes, including requirements management, interface definition, integration, and verification/validation.
• Strong technical problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work on-site in Moorestown, NJ and support engineering activities in shipboard, test-site, or integration environments as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with the Aegis Weapon System or other U.S. Navy combat systems.
• Familiarity with Navy ship design, installation, certification, modernization, and sustainment processes.
• Experience working with naval platforms, shipboard equipment, radar, antennas, sensors, or related systems.
• Previous Department of Defense, military, naval engineering, or shipboard engineering experience.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating environments.
