Position Summary:

The Test Engineer designs, develops, integrates, maintains, troubleshoots, and modernizes production test equipment, ranging from manual fixtures to complex automated test systems. These systems support testing of hybrid microelectronic components, circuit card assemblies, and avionics equipment. The role combines hands-on electronics troubleshooting, test software development, instrumentation, and system-level problem solving to sustain reliable manufacturing operations and deliver new testing capabilities. Success requires technical ownership, timely completion of assigned deliverables, proactive communication, and effective collaboration across engineering and manufacturing teams.

Key Position Accountabilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production test equipment; diagnose root causes, verify corrective actions, and minimize downtime and repeat failures. Using schematics and instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, and power supplies) to isolate faults, validate repairs, and confirm performance.
  • Develop, modify, and optimize automated test software using Visual Basic, C++, C# or other applicable languages, while creating and maintaining Cadence OrCAD schematics and integrating hardware/software changes to ensure accurate, reliable, and repeatable test system performance.
  • Troubleshoot CAN, I2C, GPIB, RS485, RS232, and MIL-STD-1553 interfaces to maintain reliable communication with units under test.
  • Develop, implement, and troubleshoot JTAG/boundary-scan tests to improve fault isolation, detect assembly defects, and maintain appropriate coverage.
  • Create and maintain test procedures, validation records, and maintenance documentation to ensure consistent operation and effective troubleshooting.
  • Plan and own assigned work from requirements through verification and closeout; meet milestones, identify risks early, and communicate delays and resource needs.
  • Collaborate with Test, Product, and Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Operations, and suppliers to resolve issues, share expertise, and implement solutions.
  • Support and document qualification and certification testing to demonstrate compliance with applicable product and customer requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology (electronics focus) or related engineering discipline; minimum three years of relevant hands-on test engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with electronic manufacturing and testing of circuit card assemblies, hybrid electronics, or similar products. Knowledge of AC/DC and semiconductor circuit theory, schematic interpretation, laboratory instrumentation, electronic fault isolation, and test hardware integration.
  • Ability to develop or troubleshoot test software in at least one relevant language (e.g., Visual Basic, C#, or C++).
  • Demonstrated ability to complete assignments on schedule, document technical work, communicate risks promptly, and collaborate across teams.
  • Hands-on JTAG/boundary-scan implementation or troubleshooting experience, including fault isolation and test coverage considerations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with multiple programming languages, especially Visual Basic, C++, and C#; familiarity with scripting, LabVIEW, or test automation frameworks.
  • Experience with CAN, I2C, GPIB, RS485, RS232, or MIL-STD-1553 interfaces.
  • Experience modernizing legacy test platforms or integrating modular instrumentation, including VXI/PXI/PXIe.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-38534, MIL-M-38510, and IPC-A-610, as applicable.
  • Experience coordinating technical solutions with equipment vendors and outside suppliers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Microsoft Access.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Proactive, hands-on problem solver who takes responsibility for delivering complete and verified solutions.
  • Dependable and organized; balances independent execution with timely requests for input and collaborative problem solving.
  • Communicates transparently about progress, obstacles, priorities, and commitments.
  • Curious about emerging test technologies and practical continuous improvement.
