Original job description
Job Duties
Utilize mechanical engineering knowledge to develop and validate electronic sensors, actuators, control units or harnesses to ensure the consistent operation of products in a variety of customer applications. Utilize Design and Application of Digital Electronics to specify components and architectures of electronic control units. Investigate highly specialized electronic hardware problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action, own problem resolution and document results. Create, manage, improve and apply electronic hardware development processes and tools including Product Problem Solving techniques - 7 step or 8D, design for EMC robustness, design for manufacturing and requirements analysis. Create Electrical Hardware Systems or electronics-based design or architecture concepts through specific knowledge of electrified (or electrical-based) systems to ensure a system design that adheres to both company and customer expectations. Obtain input and negotiate with electronic suppliers and software development teams and deliver prototype hardware to application engineering teams. Develop product systems validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes, while managing product risk and relative priority, and negotiate product requirements against capability to guide project scope utilizing Product Verification and Validation Management. Use knowledge of Systems Requirements Engineering to make decisions in the areas of hardware architecture, electrical design, and Mechanical Design that impact functionality, unit cost, and schedule. Establish acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation, and track the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle. Responsible for review of less-experienced developers/testers’ work to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient design. Responsible for coaching and developing the next generation of technical experts. Provide problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact. Lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems across business units using experience with worst case analysis, DFMEA/PFMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). Specify electronic hardware, harnesses and interconnections that measure and control systems using Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems. Utilize knowledge with circuit design simulation to analyze the design functionality before the design is implemented in a Printed Circuit Board. Assist in the transfer of knowledge to lesser experienced engineers.
REQUIREMENTS: Positions require a Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Systems or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience as an Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Systems or Design Engineer, or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Systems or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 6 years of experience as an Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Systems or Design Engineer, or related position. Experience to include: Design and Application of Digital Electronics; Electronic hardware development processes and tools including Product Problem Solving techniques - 7 step or 8D; Electrical Hardware Systems Design; Product Verification and Validation Management; Systems Requirements Engineering; Mechanical Design of Electrical Systems; Establish and track requirements throughout the system lifecycle; DFMEA/PFMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA); Harness and Interconnect design; Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems; Circuit design simulation.
