Job summary:

Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Senior Manager, Commercial FP&A serves as the finance business partner to the SVP of Sales and commercial leadership, providing actionable insights that support profitable growth, pricing discipline, and informed decision-making. The role leads commercial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis across market segments, end-use markets, customers, and product lines, translating financial and operational data into clear recommendations. Working closely with Sales, Product Management, Operations, Accounting, and Information Technology, this individual strengthens visibility into revenue, margins, and commercial risks and opportunities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Partner with the SVP of Sales and corporate commercial teams to evaluate performance, challenge assumptions constructively, and recommend actions that improve revenue quality, profitability, and execution against commercial objectives.
  • Lead commercial performance reviews, translating sales results, trends, and forward-looking projections into concise executive commentary, prioritized recommendations, and follow-up actions with clear ownership.
  • Analyze volume, revenue, price, mix, and margin by market segment, end-use market, customer group, and product line to identify growth opportunities, margin erosion, and emerging commercial risks.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of commercial reporting, analytical databases, and dashboards in partnership with Sales, Finance, Product Management, and IT. Establish consistent KPI definitions, reconcile reporting to financial results, maintain data quality and appropriate controls, and automate recurring analysis where practical.
  • Own the preparation, interpretation, and continuous improvement of the following core commercial analyses:
  • Historical monthly, quarterly, and annual trends in sales volume, revenue, realized pricing, and product margins by market segment, end-use market, customer, and product line.
  • Driver-based sales and margin forecasts developed with regional sales account managers, including documented volume, pricing, mix, and cost assumptions. Align projections with the monthly financial forecast, Sales, Operations and Inventory Planning (SIOP), and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) processes; monitor forecast accuracy and bias and drive corrective improvements.
  • Actual performance compared to prior month, quarter, and year, as well as AOP and current-year forecasts, with clear explanations of variances, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
  • Revenue and product margin bridges that isolate volume, price, mix, and foreign exchange effects, distinguishing commercial drivers from underlying cost movements.
  • Lead coordination and analysis of regional sales and Product Management inputs for AOP and Strategic Planning (STRAP). Develop scenario and sensitivity analyses to assess growth assumptions, customer demand, pricing changes, and downside exposure, ensuring alignment with operational capacity and business priorities.
  • Partner with regional Accounting to ensure customer rebate and agent commission liabilities are accurately calculated, supported, and recorded in the financial statements. Monitor sales volume and revenue against contractual thresholds, validate accrual assumptions, and support timely reconciliations and true-ups.
  • Serve as the primary commercial finance partner for new business quotations, customer contract proposals, and renewals. Evaluate volume, revenue, product margin, cost-to-serve, rebates, freight, payment terms, and other material deal economics; assess pricing realization and margin sensitivity and ensure approvals comply with the Schedule of Executive Approvals.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of working capital metrics, including days sales outstanding (DSO), days inventory outstanding (DIO), days payable outstanding (DPO), and the cash conversion cycle, and how commercial decisions affect cash flow. Perform working capital trend, variance, and scenario analyses, evaluating receivables aging, customer payment terms, inventory levels, and demand forecasts to identify cash requirements, risks, and improvement opportunities. Partner with Sales, Accounts Receivable, Operations, and Procurement to recommend and track actions that improve collections, align inventory with demand, and optimize working capital while supporting customer service and profitable growth.
  • Support new product development and commercial investment decisions through business cases evaluating profitability, return on investment, net present value, and key sensitivities. Track results against approved assumptions and highlight corrective actions.
  • Deliver timely ad hoc analysis and executive presentations for sales and finance leadership. Lead cross-functional analytical initiatives, establish repeatable processes, and share commercial finance expertise to strengthen organizational capability.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Advanced financial analysis, driver-based forecasting, scenario modeling, and data management skills, with the ability to translate complex data into practical commercial recommendations.
  • Strong business partnering and influencing skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate across Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Operations, Accounting, and IT and constructively challenge commercial assumptions.
  • Executive-level written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to present financial insights, recommendations, and trade-offs clearly to senior leadership.
  • Strong ownership, attention to detail, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment and support peak planning and reporting cycles while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint proficiency, including financial modeling and executive presentations. Ability to extract, reconcile, and analyze data from enterprise resource planning (ERP) and financial planning systems; hands-on experience with Workday Adaptive or Hyperion is strongly preferred. Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau, Power Query, and SQL is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing economics, standard cost accounting, gross and contribution margins, customer and product profitability, and pricing and rebate mechanics, with the ability to connect commercial decisions to financial results.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Finance or Accounting; a Master of Business Administration (MBA) is preferred. A relevant professional certification, such as CPA or CMA, is a plus.
  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, preferably within manufacturing, with demonstrated commercial finance, FP&A, sales analysis, and senior-level business partnering experience. A track record of leading planning cycles, improving analytical processes, and influencing pricing or profitability decisions is strongly preferred.
