Position Summary:
Provide patient care as assigned, under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) or a physician.
Responsibilities
- Practices in compliance with regulatory standards and adheres to hospital policy and procedures in the performance of duties.
- Performs ongoing patient observations per patient acuity.
- Recognizes, responds and reports changes in patient condition to RN.
- Recognizes need for interventions and implements appropriate processes to meet patients age specific needs while under the direction of an RN
- Performs, prioritizes and documents patient care tasks with education and competency documented. Refer to Covenant Health Delegation Grid.
- Accurately follows the plan of care and pertinent medical orders in collaboration and under direction of RN.
- Facilitates timely physician evaluation and intervention.
- Participates in unit specific quality assurance activities as requested.
- Demonstrates principles of infection control; collaborates with infection control nurse to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and personnel.
- Assists in orienting new employees or students to unit routines.
- Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the population served.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
Minimum Experience:
One (1) year of continuous experience as an EMT-P.
Licensure Requirements:
Must have and maintain paramedic licensure with the State of Tennessee. CPR required.
