We are looking for an innovative, energetic, and transformational Identity & Directory Services Engineer .
The Identity & Directory Services Engineer is responsible for the architecture, engineering, implementation, security, governance, and operational health of the organization’s Microsoft identity infrastructure.
This is a hands-on technical and service leadership role requiring deep expertise across on-premises Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD). The position is responsible for designing, building, securing, troubleshooting, and continuously improving enterprise identity and directory services while providing technical leadership and operational oversight of the Identity Services environment.
The position will report to the Digital Identity Service Lead and will be responsible for the day-to-day technical leadership and management of the Identity Services Managed Security Services (MSS) team, ensuring services are delivered securely, reliably, and in alignment with established architecture, governance, operational standards, and business requirements.
The Identity & Directory Services Engineer will work closely with business stakeholders, Cybersecurity, infrastructure, endpoint, application, network, service management, and other technical teams to understand requirements, resolve complex issues, deliver identity solutions, and ensure Identity Services effectively support business needs.
The successful candidate must be capable of operating at both the engineering and service leadership levels, while remaining highly hands-on with Active Directory, Entra ID, hybrid identity, security, automation, and troubleshooting.
Primary Responsibilities - How will you help us Grow!
- Report directly to the Digital Identity Service Lead and support the overall strategy, architecture, governance, and operational direction of Identity Services.
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership and operational management of the Identity Services MSS team.
- Establish technical priorities and provide direction to MSS engineers supporting Active Directory, Entra ID, authentication, and related Identity Services technologies.
- Ensure the MSS team follows established architecture, engineering standards, security requirements, change-management processes, and operational procedures.
- Provide technical oversight and escalation support for complex incidents, problems, service requests, and production changes.
- Serve as a senior technical escalation point for Active Directory, Entra ID, authentication, synchronization, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, certificate services, Conditional Access, and other identity-related issues.
- Review proposed technical changes and provide engineering guidance to protect the security, stability, availability, and integrity of the Identity Services environment.
- Drive root-cause analysis and permanent remediation of significant or recurring identity-service issues rather than relying solely on operational workarounds.
- Identify opportunities to improve service quality through automation, monitoring, standardization, documentation, and engineering improvements.
- Work collaboratively with business and technical teams to understand requirements and translate those requirements into secure, supportable identity solutions.
- Coordinate across Cybersecurity, infrastructure, networking, endpoint/Intune, application, cloud, and service management teams when identity services span multiple technology areas.
- Support the Digital Identity Service Lead with technical planning, service improvement, risk identification, operational governance, and technology-roadmap activities.
- Maintain appropriate technical documentation, standards, operational procedures, runbooks, and knowledge transfer for the Identity Services environment.
- Ability to balance hands-on engineering responsibilities with technical leadership and service management responsibilities.
Experience and Education – What you'll bring to the table!
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- 5+ years of previous experience in an identity and services management related role.
- Experience providing technical leadership and operational management of Identity Services.
- Strong background with Active Directory, Entra ID, authentication, and other related identity services technology.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership to enterprise Identity Services or managed service teams, including technical direction, operational oversight, escalation management, and coordination across multiple technology teams.
- Experience working with Managed Security Services (MSS), managed service providers, or outsourced technology delivery teams in an enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries with business, security, infrastructure, application, network, endpoint, and cloud teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex identity and security issues into understandable business impact, risk, and recommended actions.
