Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Shift Leader coverage during planned and unplanned absences, supporting daily production needs including staffing, work assignments, shift handoffs, and issue escalation.
  • Take ownership of the performance of assigned manufacturing assets, partnering with operators, technicians, and engineers to troubleshoot chronic issues, identify root causes, and sustain corrective actions.
  • Identify, implement, and track cost reduction, waste reduction, and productivity improvements using lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Analyze line and shift performance across safety, quality, service, cost, and productivity to prioritize improvements, track results, and report progress.
  • Facilitate process changes by coordinating risk assessments, documentation, approvals, and training, and support employee onboarding and cross-training.
  • Gain practical experience leading and supporting a union workforce in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, company policies, and established procedures.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering
  • No prior full-time engineering experience required; relevant internships, co-ops, academic projects, and hands-on technical experience are considered
  • Engineering fundamentals applied to analyzing data, testing ideas, and implementing practical solutions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including day, night, weekend, and off-shift coverage based on operational needs

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Concentration in Operations Management, Business, or a related field
  • Manufacturing, production, operations, or demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing or production environment
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing methods such as 5S, Kaizen, and Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving methods such as Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC), 5 Whys, and fishbone diagrams
  • Experience supporting cost-savings, productivity, waste-reduction, or process improvement initiatives
