Original job description
Company: Commercial real estate management firm, Long Island Compensation: $28 to $35 per hour, depending on experience. Paid weekly. No benefits. Job Location: Syosset, NY. On-site, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Role Summary Our client is a commercial real estate management firm in Syosset that has been in business for over 55 years. They run a small, close team, and they need a Bookkeeper / Office Manager to own the books and keep the office running. You will handle the full bookkeeping cycle in QuickBooks Desktop: tenant billing, receivables, payables, deposits, and monthly reconciliations. You will also run the office. There is no separate administrator, so vendors, supplies, files, and correspondence come to you. Phone coverage is minimal and only when needed. Their current bookkeeper is retiring in the coming months, so you will have time to learn their systems and take over with support.
Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable in QuickBooks Desktop.
- Invoice tenants, post incoming payments, and follow up on late balances.
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts every month.
- Cut checks, pay vendors on time, and make bank deposits.
- Run the office day to day: vendors, supplies, equipment, mail, and filing.
- Keep lease and financial records organized and pull reports for the owners when asked.
Qualifications
- 5 or more years of hands-on bookkeeping experience.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop.
- A solid grasp of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the general ledger.
- Experience running a small office, or being the person everyone relied on to keep one organized.
- Accurate, organized, and comfortable working on your own.
- Commercial real estate or property management experience is a plus.
Why apply for this position?
- Over 55 years in business. This is a stable company with steady work.
- Monday to Friday daytime hours. No nights, no weekends.
- A real handoff. The current bookkeeper is retiring, so you get time to learn the books before you take them over.
- Very little phone work. You can focus on the numbers and the office.
EEO Statement Our client is an Equal Opportunity Employer. They welcome applicants of every background and are committed to an inclusive workplace.
