About

We are recruiting on behalf of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for an Operations Support Specialist 4. This position provides technical leadership, operational coordination, and field oversight for deactivation and decommissioning (D&D), construction, and modernization activities at TA-55, a Hazard Category 2 nuclear facility. In practice, the role works much like a field project manager: you will make sure assigned deliverables are completed safely, securely, accurately, and on schedule, consistent with Laboratory policies and applicable requirements.

The position includes regular field presence and hands-on participation in assigned D&D and operational activities, performed within approved work documents and your individual training, qualifications, and authorization. Position-specific training, on-the-job instruction, and qualification support will be provided.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate work readiness, technical requirements, staffing, resources, and field execution across facility operations, project management, programmatic organizations, and support groups.
  • Provide oversight of assigned activities, personnel, and subcontractors, and resolve complex operational issues as they come up in the field.
  • Serve as a senior technical interface between facility operations and programmatic organizations, independently coordinating complex operational needs.
  • Support planning and budgeting, and make sure work documentation is complete and accurate, developing it where it is lacking.
  • Develop and improve facility operations programs, processes, procedures, and documentation, and promote consistent work practices between jobs.
  • Support activity approvals, readiness reviews, incident investigations, issues management, corrective actions, and compliance assessments.
  • Provide guidance to personnel, support development and delivery of facility-level training, and track training and qualification requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and customers, and provide responsive, practical field support.
  • Additional responsibilities may include property accountability, access control, and other operational or administrative support.

Minimum Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Q Clearance.

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical discipline and a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Field oversight of construction, D&D, or nuclear facility operations work.
  • Coordinating work readiness, staffing, and field execution across multiple groups.
  • Developing and maintaining work documentation, procedures, and process improvements.
  • Planning and budget support for field work.
  • Sound judgment, a questioning attitude, and accountability for assigned commitments.
  • Able to work 100% on-site at TA-50 and TA-55 and to enter the facility.

Desired Skills

• Fifteen (15) or more years of construction field experience.

• Five (5) or more years supporting DOE missions.

• DOE construction or deactivation and decommissioning (D&D) experience.

• Familiarity with work control, quality control, quality assurance, and NQA-1 requirements.

• Experience working within a DOE plutonium facility.

• Previous qualification as an Electrical Field Work Supervisor, Field Work Supervisor, or Responsible Line Manager.
