Original job description

About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.

Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers, suppliers, and many others to build the energy industry of the future.

We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised $4 billion of capital, making us the largest and leading fusion company in the world.

Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.

If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

Join the power movement as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Assembly

We are seeking a detail-oriented, innovative, and results-driven Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to improve productivity, efficiency, and quality across the production line. This role involves close collaboration with design engineers, production staff, quality assurance, and supply chain teams.

The Schedule:

Shift: Monday through Friday, 1:00 - 10:00 PM

10% differential add to base pay

What you'll do:

Develop and implement new manufacturing lines within a high-mix, low volume environment
Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and ensure product quality
Develop and maintain process documentation including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process flow diagrams
Collaborate with product design and development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products
Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance production performance
Lead the design and procurement of tools, fixtures, and equipment required for efficient production
Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and implement corrective actions
Conduct time and motion studies to determine optimal production methods and labor utilization
Support continuous improvement initiatives and implement best practices across the facility
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards
Evaluate new technologies and automation solutions to enhance manufacturing capabilities

What we're looking for:

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
7+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role
Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems
Proficient in CAD software (NX, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and manufacturing ERP systems
Ability to balance autonomy with disciplined escalation
Leadership through hands-on engagement
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Bonus points for:

Experience with clean lines
Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA)

Must-have requirements:

Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time

#CFS-NE

At CFS, we excel in fast-paced environments, driven by our values of integrity, execution, impact, and self-critique. As we grow, we’re eager to bring on mission-driven folks who offer diverse perspectives and fresh ways to tackle challenges.

We value diversity deeply and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer by choice. We consider all qualified applicants equally, regardless of race, color, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, protected veteran status, religion, physical or mental disability, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, or any other basis protected by law.

This role requires compliance with U.S. laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information (collectively, “Export Control Laws"). Any offer of employment will be contingent on the need for compliance with such Export Control Laws.
