Backend Engineer Location: Miami, Florida | Full-Time | In-Office (Not Remote) About CoinRoutes CoinRoutes Inc. provides advanced algorithmic trading technology that enables clients to buy and sell crypto-assets more efficiently. Our platform supports the evolving digital asset markets, serving some of the world's largest crypto funds and trading firms. Position Overview We are seeking a Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain the core services that power the CoinRoutes trading platform. In this role, you will help build and operate low-latency, high-throughput systems supporting market data, order routing, trade execution, and the APIs used by our trading applications. Our technology stack includes Python/Django, Rust, and C++, running on AWS, alongside React-based client applications. This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working on real-time systems, solving complex problems, and building reliable software where performance, accuracy, and attention to detail are critical. We are particularly interested in candidates with prior experience in fintech, financial services, or financial markets.

You will contribute to a variety of projects based on business priorities, team needs, and your technical interests. We do not expect candidates to have experience in every area, but we value curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. What You'll Do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services using Python, Rust, and/or C++.
• Build and enhance systems supporting market data, order management, trade execution, and post-trade workflows.
• Contribute to projects from initial design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
• Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and follow established software engineering best practices.
• Help maintain the reliability, performance, and security of systems handling sensitive client and trading data.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities and assist with troubleshooting and resolving production issues.
• Collaborate with product, trading, frontend, and infrastructure teams to deliver effective technical solutions.
• Communicate progress, challenges, and technical tradeoffs clearly.
• Leverage modern AI development tools, including Claude Code, Codex, and similar technologies, to improve development efficiency, debugging, testing, and documentation while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Potential Projects Depending on team priorities and your interests, you may have the opportunity to work on:

• Integrating WebSocket and FIX feeds into our market data platform.
• Connecting new cryptocurrency exchanges and liquidity providers to support order entry and execution.
• Developing data aggregation and ETL pipelines for client reporting and analytics.
• Enhancing algorithmic trading strategies in collaboration with our trading team.
• Designing and developing APIs for client applications, internal tools, and external customers.
• Building AI-powered features, agents, and workflow automations using LLM APIs, tool calling, and retrieval technologies.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong professional experience with Python and at least one compiled language, preferably Rust or C++.
• Experience building service-oriented architectures and working with message queues or event-driven systems.
• Experience designing and implementing REST, RPC, and WebSocket APIs.
• Understanding of concurrency, asynchronous programming, and performance optimization in latency-sensitive environments.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, such as PostgreSQL and Redis, including schema design and query optimization.
• Proficiency working in Linux-based development and production environments.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Experience troubleshooting production systems using metrics, logs, traces, and profiling tools.
• Basic understanding of financial or trading systems, including orders, fills, positions, and profit and loss (P&L).
• Working knowledge of Git and GitHub.

Nice to Have

• Experience in financial markets, particularly FIX protocols, market data, order book mechanics, or cryptocurrency exchange APIs.
• Professional experience with Rust or other compiled programming languages.
• Experience with data warehousing, ETL processes, aggregation, time-series data, and analytics platforms.
• Familiarity with Django.
• Experience with AWS, cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
• Familiarity with AI agent frameworks and orchestration tools such as LangGraph, OpenAI Agents SDK, Temporal, or n8n.
• Experience with MCP and third-party tool integrations.
• Familiarity with React and TypeScript to support collaboration with frontend engineers.

Qualifications

• 2–4+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Ability and willingness to work full-time from our Miami office.
• Demonstrated experience developing, deploying, and maintaining production software.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and learn from production incidents.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
• A collaborative approach to problem-solving and a willingness to support teammates.
• Self-motivated, curious, and eager to learn new technologies.
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when working with systems involving financial transactions and client funds.
• Familiarity with the full software development lifecycle.
• Ability to independently manage well-defined projects while recognizing when collaboration or guidance is needed.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growth-stage startup environment where priorities may evolve and responsiveness to client needs is important.
