We're looking for an experienced Drayage Driver (Class A CDL) to join our team, where you'll play a critical role in safely transporting containers between ports, rail terminals, and customer locations. Success in this role means completing pickups and deliveries on time, maintaining compliance with transportation regulations, and ensuring cargo and equipment are handled safely and professionally. This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable navigating busy port and terminal environments. You'll thrive if you take pride in your driving record, communicate proactively, and enjoy working independently while supporting a fast-paced transportation operation.
Your Impact:
As a Drayage Driver, you will:
- Safely transport containers between ports, rail terminals, and customer locations while meeting scheduled pickup and delivery requirements.
- Navigate port and rail terminal operations, including gate procedures, chassis check-in, container documentation, and terminal safety requirements.
- Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, chassis, and container securement equipment, promptly reporting defects or safety concerns.
- Maintain compliance with DOT, FMCSA, Hours of Service (HOS), ELD, and company safety requirements.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch regarding pickup and delivery updates, appointment delays, equipment issues, and detention or per-diem concerns.
- Represent UNIS professionally at customer and terminal locations while maintaining accurate transportation records and supporting safe, efficient operations.
What You Bring to the Table:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and TWIC card required, with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting company standards.
- 1+ year of drayage or port driving experience preferred, including familiarity with chassis operations and terminal check-in procedures.
- Demonstrated safe driving record with no preventable accidents or major DOT violations within the past three years.
- Strong understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service requirements, ELD systems, vehicle inspections, and container securement procedures.
- Ability to safely perform vehicle and chassis inspections, operate coupling equipment, and communicate professionally with dispatch, terminal personnel, and customers.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including early mornings, weekends, and changing dispatch assignments based on operational needs.
