Original job description

Description The Reporting Data Engineer designs, develops, and supports data warehouse, integration, reporting, and monitoring solutions that make trusted data available for client, operational, financial, management, and regulatory needs. This role partners with analysts, business stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams to improve data quality, automate recurring processes, reduce technical debt, and build scalable reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain data warehouse processes, reporting datasets, data models, SQL objects, ETL packages, scheduled jobs, and related technical infrastructure that give Reporting Analysts and business users reliable access to approved data.
  • Support the development, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of reports using Actuate/OpenText, SSRS, Power BI, or comparable reporting platforms.
  • Integrate data from internal and external systems and design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot inbound and outbound electronic data feeds, including claims, pharmacy benefit, vendor, Salesforce, and other operational platforms.
  • Build automated validation, reconciliation, logging, monitoring, and exception-based alerting for data loads, feeds, reports, and scheduled processes; investigate discrepancies and failures, identify root causes, and implement durable improvements.
  • Assess legacy reports, ETL processes, SQL logic, and manual workflows to reduce technical debt, improve performance, eliminate duplicate effort, and standardize business logic.
  • Partner with analysts, business owners, vendors, and technical teams to translate reporting and operational needs into practical technical solutions.
  • Maintain source control, change-control, testing, deployment, documentation, and audit practices for data and reporting assets.
  • Research and responsibly apply emerging tools, including AI-enabled tools, to improve development, documentation, testing, troubleshooting, monitoring, and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in data engineering, database development, data warehousing, reporting development, systems integration, or a related technical role.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including complex queries, stored procedures, views, performance optimization, and data transformations, with hands-on experience developing and maintaining ETL or data-integration processes using SSIS, Visual Studio, or comparable tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of data warehouse design, data modeling, scheduled jobs, reporting datasets, and reporting platforms such as SSRS, Actuate/OpenText, or Power BI.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex data, reporting, ETL, and integration issues and implement reliable validation, reconciliation, logging, and error-handling controls.
  • Ability to translate business needs into practical technical solutions, communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, manage multiple priorities, and deliver accurate work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, pharmacy benefit management, employee benefits, or another regulated industry, including familiarity with HIPAA, PHI, data privacy, security, and audit requirements.
  • Experience creating, deploying, maintaining, or troubleshooting Actuate/OpenText reports.
  • Experience integrating data through APIs, SFTP, flat files, vendor feeds, Salesforce or another CRM platform, or other SaaS platforms.
  • Experience with modern Microsoft data, analytics, development, and source-control technologies, including Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Git, Azure DevOps, Python, PowerShell, C#, VB, dbt, PostgreSQL, or comparable tools, including responsible use of AI-enabled tools.

Personal Attributes

The successful candidate will be curious, collaborative, self-directed, detail-oriented, adaptable, and focused on practical, sustainable improvements.
