Original job description

At Climate Pros, skilled tradespeople install and support the commercial refrigeration systems that grocery stores and other essential businesses depend on every day. We are preparing for anticipated growth across Florida in 2027 and want to connect with experienced commercial refrigeration professionals who value safety, quality workmanship, continued training, and working with people who understand the trade. Future roles are expected to require statewide travel approximately four days per week and will offer a highly competitive benefits package.

Position Summary

The Construction Start-Up Technician provides expert, journeyman-level support for the pre-start preparation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, fine-tuning, and operational turnover of commercial refrigeration systems. The role works with single systems, parallel rack systems, display cases, walk-in coolers and freezers, electrical and mechanical components, and microprocessor-based controls commonly used in supermarkets and other essential commercial environments. The technician helps ensure each system is safe, leak-free, properly configured, documented, and operating to design intent before customer handoff.

Why Build Your Career with Climate Pros

Meaningful work: Help install and support refrigeration systems that keep food safe and essential businesses operating.
Trade-focused leadership: Work with people who understand commercial refrigeration, field conditions, and what it takes to deliver quality work.
Safety and craftsmanship: Join a culture that expects safe execution, professional conduct, and work completed right the first time.
Continued development: Expand your technical capabilities through ongoing training, challenging projects, and opportunities to learn from experienced professionals.
Growth and stability: Become part of a growing commercial refrigeration organization preparing to expand its Florida capabilities.
Competitive rewards: Future roles are expected to include a highly competitive benefits package, with compensation aligned to experience, qualifications, and applicable agreements.

What You Will Do

Provide knowledgeable, professional workmanship and technical oversight during pre-start, startup, commissioning, and project turnover activities.
Review project drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, manufacturer requirements, and startup documentation before energizing equipment.
Complete pre-start inspections and verify piping, electrical connections, controls, sensors, valves, refrigerant circuits, equipment readiness, and required safety devices.
Perform or verify approved pressure testing, evacuation, dehydration, leak detection, refrigerant charging, oil management, and related commissioning procedures.
Start, test, adjust, and fine-tune single and parallel rack refrigeration systems, display cases, walk-in systems, compressors, condensers, controls, and related components.
Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, refrigerant-flow, microprocessor-control, communication, and sequence-of-operation issues.
Configure and troubleshoot energy-management and refrigeration-control platforms, including Novar, CPC, Danfoss, Micro Thermo, RDM, and comparable systems.
Partner with project managers, foremen, technicians, electricians, pipefitters, manufacturers, customers, and other trades to identify issues and drive timely resolution.
Provide a complete, timely, and high-quality operational handoff, including verification of system performance and communication of open items or follow-up needs.
Enter clear, detailed notes, readings, checklists, photographs, and resolution information in every assigned dispatch and required commissioning record.
Follow required customer check-in and checkout procedures and communicate project status, risks, and technical findings professionally.
Maintain a clean, organized vehicle, tools, test instruments, assigned technology, and professional appearance.
Observe and comply with all company, customer, manufacturer, OSHA, environmental, refrigerant-management, government-compliance, and project-specific requirements.
Perform service calls and other related duties as assigned to support successful project completion and customer satisfaction.

What You Bring

Seven or more years of supermarket or commercial refrigeration and freezer experience, including rack refrigeration and startup or commissioning responsibility.
Advanced knowledge of refrigeration electrical, mechanical, piping, controls, pressure-testing, evacuation, charging, leak-detection, and troubleshooting practices.
Demonstrated experience with Novar, CPC, Danfoss, Micro Thermo, RDM, and other energy-management controls and rack-refrigeration platforms.
Ability to read and apply blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, piping diagrams, sequences of operation, manufacturer information, and commissioning documents.
Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision while escalating risks, coordinating resources, and taking ownership of resolutions.
Excellent communication, customer-service, time-management, organization, documentation, and practical problem-solving skills.
Ability to use an iPad or comparable mobile technology for dispatches, documentation, photographs, checklists, and communication.
Ability to follow detailed procedures and process steps consistently to protect safety, system integrity, quality, and customer readiness.
Team-oriented, growth-focused, adaptable, and committed to doing what the work requires safely and professionally.

Education, License, and Certifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Universal EPA Certification required.
Valid state driver’s license required and must be maintained.
Additional OSHA, controls, manufacturer, electrical-safety, lift, or commissioning certifications may be required or preferred based on the assignment.

Travel and Schedule Expectations

This role requires approximately 80% travel throughout Florida and may include travel outside the state based on project assignments and business needs.
Travel may involve overnight stays and extended assignments. Candidates must be able to reliably report to assigned jobsites and meet all travel requirements for the role.
Schedules may include early starts, nights, weekends, overtime, on-call coverage, or off-hour work based on project, startup, and customer requirements.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Regularly stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, push, pull, and perform manual tasks throughout the workday.
Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work indoors and outdoors in active construction and retail environments with varying temperatures, noise, dust, equipment, and jobsite hazards.
Use required personal protective equipment and follow all company, customer, OSHA, environmental, and site-specific safety requirements.
