Description

At ClassLink, we believe learning should be accessible, engaging, and empowering for every student, every educator, everywhere. That’s why we build secure, intuitive tools that empower more than 26 million students and educators worldwide. From simplifying access with single sign-on, to advancing equity with usage analytics, to automating secure rostering, our platform helps schools focus on what matters most: teaching and learning.

We’re not just building tools, we’re building what’s next in education. By removing barriers and enabling data-driven decisions, our solutions help educators lead with confidence and students thrive in and out of the classroom every day.

Our team is driven by purpose and grounded in three core values:

  • Strive to Grow - always learning, improving, and innovating.
  • Deliver Worthwhile Experiences - for our users, our partners, and each other.
  • Contribute with Heart - putting people first in everything we do.

These values shape how we work, innovate, and support the communities we serve. If you’re ready to do work that makes a real difference, and grow alongside a team that values collaboration, support, and continuous improvement. ClassLink is the place for you.

The AI Designer, IC2 designs and delivers intuitive, accessible, and user-centered experiences that support ClassLink’s AI-first product strategy. This role independently owns feature-level design, from conducting user research and defining interaction flows to creating wireframes and prototypes that translate customer needs, business goals, and AI capabilities into effective solutions. Partnering closely with Product Management, Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Senior Designers, the AI Designer thoughtfully integrates intelligent recommendations, automation, and generative experiences into assigned products. This role applies established design systems, reusable patterns, and accessibility principles while contributing to ongoing design improvements. Success requires strong design judgment, effective communication, curiosity, and adaptability to deliver consistent, scalable, and trustworthy experiences.

Key Responsibilities

AI-Enhanced Experience Design

  • Design user experiences for AI-driven features, including prompts, outputs, feedback loops, and edge cases.
  • Translate AI system behavior into clear, intuitive, and controllable user interactions.
  • Apply the organization's design system, modern visual language, and interaction standards consistently across assigned feature work.

Accountability & Results

  • Create workflows, wireframes, and prototypes that communicate AI capabilities and dynamic interactions.
  • Define intuitive user flows that support successful task completion within assigned product areas.
  • Apply the design system consistently using approved patterns, components, and design tokens.
  • Follow established design system governance for exceptions while identifying opportunities to improve reusable patterns, components, and documentation.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Plan and conduct feature-level user research and usability testing with guidance from senior designers.
  • Use established research operations to recruit participants, facilitate studies, and translate findings into actionable design improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify workflows and improve user experiences across the ClassLink platform.
  • Support modernization initiatives led by senior designers and design leadership.
  • Support product modernization initiatives by applying current design standards and collaborating with senior designers to improve legacy experiences.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, QA, and other stakeholders to align user experience solutions with AI capabilities, technical constraints, and business objectives.
  • Contribute design perspectives that help shape feature-level product decisions.
  • Communicate design rationale, research findings, and usability recommendations clearly to cross-functional teams, incorporating feedback to improve product outcomes.

This role is remote with quarterly in-person strategy meetings.

NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may be asked to perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, UX Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in UI/UX design, product design, or related field
  • Fluency with AI-assisted design and prototyping tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Figma AI, v0, or similar) and comfort operating in AI-enabled design workflows where AI is integral to daily work.
  • Experience designing accessible and inclusive user experiences consistent with WCAG principles.
  • Solid systems thinking: understands how product workflows connect within a product area
  • UX judgment to simplify feature-level complexity and reduce cognitive load
  • Ability to execute design work independently and propose solutions within owned feature scope
  • Comfortable working in an environment focused on modernization rather than legacy preservation
  • Strong user research skills; designers conduct their own feature-level research using shared research infrastructure, with senior support as needed
  • Comfortable designing for multi-stakeholder products where the buyer (administrator) is different from the user (teacher, student, parent)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with ability to present and justify design decisions
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with engineering within a centralized, code-based design system environment
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and handle ambiguity
  • Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design work. Portfolio should include at least one example of designing AI-integrated workflows or product experiences

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • Experience designing AI/ML-powered features or products.
  • Experience working within a design system in a complex product environment.
  • SaaS or EdTech background.
  • Familiarity with prompt design or conversational interfaces.
  • Knowledge of ethical AI and responsible design principles.
  • Familiarity with EdTech compliance considerations (FERPA, COPPA).

This role is remote with quarterly in-person strategy meetings.
