Job Description:
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a Software Engineer I to join our Promotions team and help build full-stack systems that make promotions accurate, reliable, and easy for customers to use. You’ll work with experienced engineers, product managers, and partner teams to turn business requirements into maintainable software and deliver improvements across the promotions lifecycle. This is an opportunity to grow your engineering skills while contributing to a high-impact customer experience.
The Promotions team works across customer-facing React.js experiences and backend services that support the creation, evaluation, and delivery of promotional offers. You’ll learn the domain, contribute to well-scoped projects, and help ensure that our systems perform reliably as Chewy grows. We value thoughtful design, clear communication, strong testing, and a willingness to learn.
What You’ll Do:
- Build, test, and maintain full-stack experiences, services, APIs, and internal tools that support promotions and offers
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to break down requirements and deliver incremental improvements
- Write readable, maintainable full-stack code, including React.js user interfaces and backend services, and participate in code reviews, design discussions, and team ceremonies
- Develop unit and integration tests, debug issues, and improve the reliability of the systems you support
- Learn and apply engineering best practices for data, APIs, observability, security, and performance
- Investigate production issues with support from teammates and contribute to root-cause analysis and follow-up fixes
- Use monitoring and operational feedback to identify opportunities to improve customer and team experiences
- Contribute to documentation and share knowledge as you grow your understanding of the Promotions domain
What You’ll Need:
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 0–2 years of software engineering experience, including internships, co-ops, or substantial academic projects
- Experience with React.js and modern front-end development, plus exposure to backend services or APIs
- Understanding of core software engineering concepts, including data structures, algorithms, APIs, and databases
- Experience writing tests and debugging code; familiarity with version control and code review workflows
- Ability to learn unfamiliar systems and ask clear, thoughtful questions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and adapt as requirements or information change
- Customer focus, curiosity, and a commitment to building reliable, maintainable software
- Position may require travel
The base salary range for this role is $97,500 - $160,000.00.
